Grandpa's Car

I see what looks like a red poppie in the driver side head rest, the type the Veterans sell every year. My grandpa always had them on the sun visors of his cars. I always buy new ones every year have them in all my cars to carry on the memory and service of our Vets. Does anyone else do this? I am only 53, but was raised along side a large WW II era auto working family in Detroit.
I do. They would always be standing in the street down in the local village.

I haven't seen them in a couple years, but that might be more about my timing driving through there.

I think almost all my high school teachers were WWII vets... Here's even a tie in with my 300... The previous owner's mother taught at my high school. She was a Marine Reservist in WWII.

I've seen many folks grab those cars as they age and lost all their value... that one looks to be in VG condition... I know several former tech's who would love to buy her for a song and run her for pennies for the next decade... The kid should be pleased and with maintenance, her biggest issue will probably be the day it won't start due to GM's dumbass double stacked battery cable...
You see an old Lesabre or Century for sale around here it'll be gone in two days. Very reliable used cars.

You saw correctly. Grandpa served in the RAF and RCAF. Never misses a November 11 ceremony.

Yes that was my inlaws last car too, 97 Le Sabra they are both gone over three years now and the Buick is going strong with my wifes cousin very happy with it at 98K miles! We call them cemetary cruisers cause you see so many in cemetaries out visiting their departed loved ones!

I know were not related but can I get the same deal as Doba???? I will be on a plane tonight. Lol

LOL, I just got off the phone with him. He told me that his wife hit a deer some nights ago in the car. $4200 worth of damage and in the shop right now.

Funny, they don't sell for much here, and a nice one with a fair price won't sell at all. The kids and too many idiot adults think they need more "stylish" transportation... and then they can't afford to maintain it... nearly all used car lots are "buy here, pay here" @30+% and they recoup the car's value on the down payment.

I suppose I've become disappointed in humanity... must be the new hat...

Not everyone around here buys the kid a new BMW when they get their license. A used Lesabre with the 3800 is very popular as a second car or college car. Very often originally owned buy an older person with lowish miles.

Where I am, if I stood in any spot in the County and threw a rock, it would hit a 10 year old/20k mi. Buick.
Or the Marquis/Town Car blocking it.

My son called me just a couple hours ago, he ran out of gas with his truck and coasted into a friend's driveway.

As usual, Dad to the rescue...

I pulled in the driveway and saw that his 30ish year old friend had two Buicks like this in his driveway.

I had a girlfriend in the early 70's that had a car given to her from her dear old Dad.....she would run out of gas just about every week. The damn gas gauge was accurate. I rescued her the first time.....after that I told her call dear old Dad. That relationship didn't last much longer....

Well... Kids are different from girlfriends and if the situation was reversed, he would bring me gas. This was a rare occurrence and I'm glad to be able to help him.

I've been practicing parking mine crooked in handicapped spots.

The little thumb suckers refuse to drive it and the parents feel like they need to solve it...:realcrazy:
I'd get junior a bus pass and be done with it... and maybe a box of Hefty Samsonite too...

I'm surprised by how many high school kids have a 2-3 year old truck, and not a basic truck (do they make those anymore?) but loaded bowtie LTZ's lifted with bigger tires. And I live in Farmville, kids are supposed to drive an old beater. Maybe the kid won't love mommy and daddy if he doesn't get the newest truck in the school parking lot.

Florida car auction guys refer to senior mobiles as " four corner cars". Always a Buick, Crown Vic or Marquis. All suffer from the "park by feel" after effects.

Rectifying that today....
Old trunk light panel versus "new" going on

Well that sucks, I am sure they will get it back to pre-accident condition though. Looks really sharp in the pic.
