Hello. Got my first 73 newport and would like to know what is this in the back of the car (photo 1). And why there is so many fuel lines in one tank (rest of the photos).

I’ve never seen that emblem, it almost looks like something from the ‘80s. As far as the tank it appears to only have a couple of extra hoses besides the supply, one atmospheric vent and one return maybe? I’ve seen earlier cars with the charcoal canister in the back that have 4 or 5 lines besides the supply.

The hoses I believe, aside from the actual fuel line to the pump, are part of the cleaner air system. Does the car still have the charcoal canister up front? As far as that "20" badge, no clue.

Agreed. Almost looks like something from the Mitsubishi/Colt/Arrow days. 2.0 engine maybe.

Accept they usually weren’t shy about using the decimal pint when it came to displacement.

The "20" emblem is off a 20HP Chrysler outboard boat motor. Here's a similar one.

One suggestion to the OP. While I'm no prude, IMHO, the word "****" in the title is a bit vulgar and not appropriate in a thread title. There are some folks that would normally be willing to help you that will just skip this thread.

Ok. Thanks for the answers. Sorry for the word ****, I should've wrote holy ****, coz then it would not be so vulgar. But anyway, can anyone tell me the difference between normal model of 73' Newport and a custom model?

I prefer turd...what's the Finnish translation for turd?

Which; although I knew the answer when the post was 9 mins old, is exactly what I did.

...and the extra hoses, given that they're using screw clamps, (which the factory never used on fuel lines) could be any matter of backyard previous-owner ****.

California emissions set up

I believe the emissions set up that uses extra hoses in the trunk (vapor separater) was '70 only. My Fury was CA emissions and looked nothing like that. I think it's something home-made... maybe he filed the outboard from the car's tank. There is also a wire with an aftermarket terminal, could be a hokey electric pump.

The difference between Newport and Newport Custom:

They are different trim levels, some more chrome on the Custom and different interior seat trim styles & offerings.

Back in the day, you could option up the Newport to be damn close to an Imperial with options if you wanted, but have it in a plain brown wrapper. Which is exactly what my Uncle Joe did in 73. He wasn't a fan of flashy..he didn't want a vinyl top and lots of trim, but he optioned his base Newport with things he deemed meaningful and of utility- the 440, towing package, A/C, PW, Seek Scan Am/FM radio for long trips (he hunted and fished a lot and took long road trips towing his trailer).

Those were the days.
