But selling isnt always accurate. When was the last time you told the DMV the truth on a buying price? I NEVER have

 ...and that makes sense. taxes on my blue car have been paid 5 different times. No sales tax should be paid on anything used

It pays to buy from a private owner here as opposed to a dealer where you do pay sales tax. On our 5th wheel trailer it saved us $2900.

I pay a one time flat fee of $140.00 in MN at time of title transfer and plate requests. I tell them accurately what I paid for and a bill of sale. That is for "Collector" plates only which have a restricted use guideline list which I find loopholes and violate all the time between April and November. If I sell before one year passes then I pay full sales tax...But, I never sell anything.

Oliver just saw a black 72 4dr in KC CL asking 12K...pretty mint 54K miles...now of course I will see all for sale when scanning c bodies. Let me know if you want link to compare.

Thank you all for your time and input; I appreciate it. I think I'll wait another month or two :BangHead: and advertise it on NY CL + see what happens. While it saddens me to part with it, I do look forward to the resulting increased freedom.

I always tell DMV the truth on price. I don't like lying more than I don't like paying taxes, so I pay.
Agree, but I have to clarify that in my case... I buy kinda cheap, I am happy to pay the taxes on those purchases. I also tend to be superstitious about the possibility of someday reselling for a modest profit (on paper, before repair expenses)... so I tend to save all my receipts for anything I buy.

I know the profit thing is more like a dream, but I'm pretty sure I could document anything I ever do sell as a financial loss.
