curious how WIDE of a tire people can fit in the stock wheel well like 275 55 15? And with a 10in wide rim what backset will work for the largest tire?

I asked this question a few years ago and believe that there is a thread on this somewhere on this forum. I would suggest that you measure the distance from the brake drum to the quarter panel on both sides of the car as in my experience they can be different due to the build quality back in the day.

I am actually putting quarters on now and am modifying the inner wheel well but just wanted a reference from factory space

Also if someone knows can you use a “bart” style wheel and still use your factory dog dish caps

buy a percy wheelrite from summit. you wont regret it. part # 01201 can be used on any vehicle. measure once order once and you wont be trying to return wheels and tires that don't fit. around 50 bucks if i remember

See below for what I run on my '68 without any modifications. I still have plenty of room in the rear for wider. I can get some pics and measurements if needed. Just let me know.

Foose wheels =
18x8 front with 225/5018 Cooper ZEON tires
18x9 rear with 255/45/18 Cooper ZEON tires

Take it away Commando!!!:D
How did I miss this thread??

Pics would be great!

I run 235/75/15s in the back, but will likely step them down a little in a couple years. I note my gas mileage picked up a mile when I put 215/75/15s up front last month.
Do you mean when you corrected the alignment? :poke::)

No, after by 3 mos. My Mastercrafts were pretty badly thrashed of course. Plenty time for me to note gas mileage.
For fuel economy, front tires shouldn't play too big a role unless they had huge rolling resistance. Rear tires would change the speedometer/odometer and torque a little and could produce various real or imagined changes. Sometimes numbers can lie. Either way your not changing too far for safety, and she might feel a tad more peppy.
