My car has been running great, other then a ballast resistor, she has purred all summer. Engine temps stays at 180 and creeps to 190 if at idle for awhile. I went to fiddle with the carb to squeeze a little more out of her after I went to pick my daughter up from tennis and I could not even put my hand on the inner fender. Gas line, breather tubing, everything is smoking hot. Like I said she runs great and will idle all day long in 90 degree heat, no heat soak at all. Thought it could be exhaust leak but cannot find one, any cause for concern? What about others?

It is summer so things are going to be warm under the hood. Check your heat riser to be sure it is not stuck, that will put a lot of extra heat in the engine compartment.

How long can you rest your hand on a 200 degrees surface? I’m guessing it’s normal.

Mine used to get really hot under hood too. Never overheated, just very hot. Changed the worn out fan clutch with new replacement...much cooler under hood.
