I am trying to chose new rims and tires for my 65 New Yorker 2 dr . I think big rims look good on big cars , but when I set an old school 15 in rim and tire on the back I think looks great . Anyone go with a 20 in rim on there c body ? How is the ride affected ? What size tire you use ? Offset ? I put a friends 20 on the front and took a pic , everyone that looks says they like the 20 on the front . Hoping to get other opinions or would like to see pictures of your car with rims .

Any time you put larger wheels, and consequently a lower profile tire, your ride quality will suffer. The lack of cushioning by the larger sidewall will become apparent very quickly. I went from a 60 series to a 70 series on my 300, and the ride is much more comfortable now.

This is 235/70 -15

Thanks 300 , that is a very nice car . I really like the torq thrust style rims .my New Yorker is black and really like chrome with that rim style . A friend put his 17 in on and they look good to , hard decision . Only want to buy rims once .

Try the veal and don't forget to tip the waiters....

But anyway.... To the OP, I think a 16 or 17" wheel is about the largest you want. The 17" might even be stretching it. IMHO, when you get into a wheel that big, they just don't look right. The ride is going to be compromised and the selection of wheel styles doesn't work with the lines of the car. Again, that is my opinion and you've asked for opinions.

I like 15" wheels on cars of the '50-70's. My opinion, but I think the big 20 inchers look ugly and out of place on them. I went with 15x7 AR Torque-Thrust Ds, like
300rag.

I have slots and Cragar G/T rims, the later being 15", the slots soon to follow. They have plenty of sidewall n look right on the car.

If I were to go bigger, 17" would be my limit.

I have 20s on 2008 Chrysler 300 and love them but I have 15s on my 68 Fury and would never consider putting 20s on an older C-Body. Why? Because the 300 is styled for the bigger wheels with larger fender wells etc., so the wheels fit the space and look good on the car. The C-Bodies, however, were not designed for larger wheels and tires - they were designed with smaller fender wells, etc., to look good with the size wheels that were used in their day. As a result, I don't think a C-Body can ever look good wearing the larger wheels because the large wheels will always look out of proportion to the fender wells. That's my opinion, anyway.

Thanks so much to all members for valued opinions . I totally agree with the 15 in rim opinions . I am 52 and kind of old school . But at the same time am open minded to other ideas and looks . I am not very good at sending or uploading pics . But will try send a pic of my car with a friends 20 in on front and a 17 on rear . I am leaning to the 15 in , possibly 17 in max . Appreciate all .
