When I was 16 and was looking for my first car, my Dad and I went to look at a '65 or 6 Ford Falcon Sprint. When we got to the house where the car was, we saw that exact scene. My Dad kept on driving. I asked why he didn't stop? He said, "With that many people poking around the engine bay, you don't want that car."

But I did!!!

Reminds me of the last picture in my wedding album.
A friend brought his 68 Coronet to the reception and the points burned out. Being a wedding of die hard car people, we were all out in the parking lot at midnight in tuxes working on his car. My wife always jokes about how that is so me and my friends.

They were probably trying to figure out what was knocking in that old 3 main bearing engine, or the fuel pump was bad for the umpteenth time, cross draft carb was flowing over, head gasket leaking, which of the two water pumps was squealing, etc.. Had to be a '50's photo, not a plumber's crack in sight.

... cross draft carb was flowing over...

Ah yes, the ol' "Teapot"

It's either that or why the damn thing is overheating.
Maybe they're trying to figure out how to change a valve spring without pulling the intake.

One of our former customers was deep in to '57 Chevies when I was selling him parts. One night, he got to talking about when he had the requisite flathead Ford V-8 with a Carson Top, that every time they went out of town in it, to a car event, it got to he had a friend follow him with a trailer. Every time, it seemed, something broke or it overheated. He got tired of that and changed over to '57 Chevies as a result. At that time, never had heard of those issues. I guess Clyde was always being chased by other Ford police cars, so they all could take breaks at the same time? LOL
