This week did some crown/bridge work on one of my anxious and senior patients...we were talking about our trains during a couple long appointments...keeping his mind off of sectioning his bridge, etc...then he brings me these from his collection as a gift. Told him I'd buy them but he wouldn't have it. Apparently he has quite a collection and a 4 track transformer I'd like first crack at...

That was very nice of him! Some nice looking pieces. Chessie engines always look great to me.

WOW! Zach! You should have an open-house for all the neighborhood kids (and adults). Very impressive, and I love the whistle on that NYC Hudson.

Had a pretty cool morning. There was a model railroad/train paraphernalia show in Jacksonville today at the Prime Osborn convention center going on. Pretty cool to see.
Ended up grabbing a couple goodies. Found a new mopar for the streets.
The best item I thought was this Post War Lionel Santa Fe F3 set. Been looking for one for a while. Saw it, and had to grab it.
It needs a good cleaning, and going over. Paint is not the best, but for a 70 year old toy think it’s held up pretty well. This will be more of a shelf queen with occasional running. Gonna work on restoring it over time.
I threw it in the tracks to see if it would do anything. It was a little grumpy, but she does move!

On our way out spotted this MTH Railking Imperial steam engine. Price was so good had to get it. It even has the latest proto sound 3. I already have the passenger cars for the proto one PA steamer, so it’s a good fit.
Engine sounds great! The smoke unit took a minute to warm up, but is working good.
The train shop in Tampa called me yesterday. They are finally working on the challenger. Should be back soon hopefully!

Sweet! Both my MTH's have the proto sound. Cool to hear the cab chatter, how the engines start up, power down, clickety clack... very cool to run both trains on the same track too!

Man, I wish I knew you were lookin for some F-3's. I have a pair of 2353's I've been wantin to get rid of for a while now. Oh well, nice lookin units though.

I gotta admit, I’m pretty impressed with the ProtoSound 3 on this engine! It is pretty impressive. All the little extra sounds are awesome!

The Santa Fe’s are like a staple. Just gotta have em, to have em for me lol.

These ones I picked up do need some love. Y’all know anyone restoring the shells on these?
Looks like a battery was left too long in the compartment. I took a little sandpaper to the door to try and clean it up. Also took some to the roller pickups. Was getting quite a bit of sparks. She wasn’t liking going around turns. This thing is power hungry!!! It kills my little lionel transformer before it gets going. The MTH setup doesn’t like it either. My TMCC setup offers quite a bit of juice. It is maxed out though running this engine.
I put a battery in, but no horn. I am getting some reaction though.
Finally got her to go around this loop without help.
Here it is trying to honk the horn.
She is loud!! Like a damn vacuum cleaner going around th tracks lol. She did seem to loosen up a little, and run a little better after a couple laps. Still need to open it up, and inspect...

That runs great! That’s the sound, like a coffee grinder. And the horn, well, that’s the horn, lol. If you open it up there are contacts, like points and a relay that can be cleaned up. The shell looks pretty good, you can get a decal kit, the ladders, horns and retro battery compartment door to fix it up.
Ok so now you have modern and postwar, eventually you can graduate to prewar and standard gauge tinplate, lol.
I just picked up this set from 1917:

I can appreciate, and admire the pre war/standard gauge. But I can’t relate to it at all unfortunately, and have no desires for any. At least at the moment lol.
If I had a bag of $$ fall out of the sky, a blue comet set would be here though. Who doesn’t love the blue comet??
I’ll stick with my command engine stuff, but the post war Santa Fe was a must.
I do see there are a bunch of replacement parts online for these F3’s. That’s good!

DOH! What a beautiful set! I would be all over em if I didn’t just blow the train play money yesterday.
There was a guy on eBay a couple weeks ago with a beautiful set of 2353’s. He was actually here locally in Orange park. I almost jumped on em, but got outbid more then I wanted to spend on the last day of the auction.
I gotta get my current engines out of shop jail before buying anything else. Also need to get on some sidings for a place for some of these engines to sit on the layout..
Yes these 2343’s are the horizontal growlers.

I got the F3 opened up today. She looks a lot better inside then I anticipated. Someone has been inside before, and added some new wiring. Looks to be a fairly old repair itself though. The solder joints are not the best. Also discovered the horn wire is not soldered to the post either. Was just wrapped around the post. Tried testing it with a battery, but no dice...
I cleaned, and lubbed the rear truck. I need to get a new soldering gun, and practice my skills a little more before going further with it...

I have my Dad's prewar trains. A 1917 #156, it's rare as it's a 4-4-4 and not the 0-4-0. And I also have his #256 Loco and I believe that's a 1926 vintage. Both them suckers just haul ***, to bad there so top heavy as they can't take a turn at a crawl without tipping.
I got mine off E-bay as well. Yeah, these are a real cherry set, so nice I really don't and haven't run them. I have a pair of Williams to take their place and want to download some of my stuff.
