The car, whose previous owner lived in upstate New York, first popped up on FCBO last September. How it became mine a few days ago, and what I knew of its history at the time of purchase, is detailed in this thread. I plan to post updates (as well as post questions and entertain discussions about the car) in the current thread.

Attached is a photo of the car that I took at the Culvert Road, the only road that goes under the Erie Canal. Wyatt and I drove by there, a mile or so of its former home on Portage Road in Medina, NY, as part of a final test drive before loading up the car.

I hope you like this photo as much as I do!

You and Wyatt both know how to photograph an automobile to bring out its best from all the right angles. In terms of my tastes for automotive design, I rate the 71 Chrysler 300s at the top of the list, but right behind by only a hair is the 71 Polara/Monacos which to me are virtually identical in appeal. Just outstanding design from about any angle for any of them. I believe you really scored an extremely hard to find car both in terms of options and condition - these cars are among the very hardest to even come across anymore. Well done! And Elwood Engle was a genius. Right up there with Virgil Exner. And Chrysler had them both.

Michel, I hope you realize how my current state of mind landed you a great car.
Great great car. I am anxious for Carlisle

Congratulations, I look forward to seeing the car and meeting you at Volo.

Nice score... I suppose you'll have to learn to live with the stripe in her britches... I'll be checking her out in July.

Great great car.

Congratulations! Nice car and couldn't be going to a better home.

Well folks, thanks a lot for all the kind words. I really, really like the car, and will do my best (with Wyatt's help) to keep it in good shape!

I am aware of its rarity, too. I only know of a few FCBO members who own '71 coupes (@polara71, @71Polara383, @Autoengineer, and @saforwardlook) and just one who owns a four-door (@akiran). Another member (dustin71) had a '71 Monaco 4-door hardtop but I have not seen a post by him in over 5 years. Maybe we should start a registry for 1971 Polaras and Monacos!

EDIT (2-13-2019): I forgot @3C's & a D? who has a ‘71 Polara coupe. It’s GY9, too!

I suppose you'll have to learn to live with the stripe in her britches...

Exactly. If/when I repaint it, it'll be in the original color. Since I am not a huge fan of GY9 (based on the photos I've seen -- I still have to see it in person and could well change my mind), I am in no rush to go through a costly repaint. As is, it's the wrong color, the paint job is not perfect, and I am not a fan of the bumblebee stripe either -- but for the time being I plant to treat the paint as a protective "wrap" and to drive the car to meets this spring and summer.

EDIT (2-13-2019): I just read a thread I'd missed about a '72 GY9 Imperial, and I actually can see why my car's original color would be really nice in the right light. Still won't repaint Medina this year or even next, but the likelihood that I do it sooner rather than later has gone up.

Congratulations on the purchase I'll be seeing the car tomorrow lol.

Congrats! Hope to see it at Carlisle.

I've registered Medina for Volo, and I need to do the same for Carlisle (I've only registered my '70 'vert there so far) and MoparFest. My hope is to do all three, so that a max nbr of people can see the car in person, but that's a lot of time and miles. What Wyatt and I will be doing meanwhile is troubleshooting and driving it to smaller shows, so that I am reasonably certain that the car can be driven reliably and safely long-distance.

Right now, Wyatt is replacing Medina's heater control valve. Thanks to @saforwardlook for sharing with us, in real time, the experience he has gained in that respect from his many cars!
