I just got two new Raybestos Drums delivered (982091r which... comes out as mitsubishi rotors lol) The invoice states what I ordered: Raybestos 1924R. They said for 2.75" brakes and when I measure the drum surface they measure 3". Is that correct or did Rockauto send me the wrong parts...once again? The difference between the drums for 3" shoes vs 2.75" shoes is: 3.330 vs 3.160...so should I not worry?

Put 'em on and see if they rub...

I recently sent back a pair of Raybestos drums (different p/n tho) because they were out of round. Beware.

It might be quite common for new drums to be out of round, due to the way they are warehoused on the edge of the box rather than being laid flat.

When I put the 11x2 rear brakes on my Camaro, using new drums, there was some brake pulsation (out of roundness) from the rear. Made adjusting the parking brake "different", too. I knew what it was and why it was there, so I drove it for a while and THEN got the drums cut after they'd seasoned a bit. To me, that's a better way to do it, rather than cut a green drum.

From what I've seen, there is some "gray area" between the 11x3 brake drums/shoes and the 11.2.75 brake items. In some catalogs, you kind of have to read between the lines, it seems.

How do the new drums compare to the old ones?

I have just put them on. They seem to be round. no more pulsating pedal and shaking steeringwheel. When I adjusted them, I was able to get a constant "scrub" instead of rub......rub .....rub with the old ones.

Any recommendations as to where to get best brake drums from? Happy to pay extra to get best quality? On the likes of Summit Racing there seems to be several price points for drums.

Wagner used to be a good product.
Look for anything with a high nickel content as this helps reduce rusting when not driving for any period of time...

Look at # 4 --- there's your answer --- N.O.S. (until they are GONE.....)
Wagner used to be good -- because they bought from Century in Saint Louis -- Out Of Business since 1995.
Raybestos and Bendix similarly bought from U.S.A. manufacturers who are also O.O.B.....
Now they are all sell-outs to the chineseum world because They Have No Choice....
You do --- CALL ME......
