I noticed this Bendix dual diaphragm brake booster is now being reproduced, not rebuilt, and the price is very attractive:

They are about the price of a rebuilt, new repops that are made in China. Guess we shall see if they are any good. My luck with Chi-com parts has not been very good, so I will let somebody else be the guinea pig.

Usually rebuilds of that booster cost in excess of $300, at least up until now.
 
When the PJ unit is installed its obvious its non original. I have one for sale if theres any interest. Ill post a pic soon of the two side by side.

Can you be more specific as to the visual tips you refer to, and what if any other concerns have brought you to the point of selling it? It would be good to know so pthers are informed.

Only correct for 440 and Hemi cars, all others should use big single.

By saying hemi, I assume you're referring to non C body cars... Bendix dual diaphragm boosters were factory C body issue for 65-68, but I think they possibly were slightly bigger, at 8 3/4, but I can't confirm that. I need to measure my spare. Can anyone else confirm?

The big single (Kelsey Hays) came into use on C body cars mid 69 I believe.

Yes I was replying to jason99 e body mention, sorry for confusion.
 
The rod that attaches to the brake pedal is different between C Bodies and the others. The rest of the booster is the same. The booster reman places that sell conversion kits for the B's and E's use mostly C body boosters to make the kits and they install new pedal rods for the conversion. Booster Dewy has loads of extra C body rods in stock if anyoneone wants to convert a '64-'66 Imperial Booster to fit a '65-'73 C body.

A friend of mine in Sweden bought one of the repops with the intention of installing it in a '67 300. He was going to modify the rod to make it work. I'll have to ask him how that worked out, as it was at least a year ago now.
 
In Chrysler models of C bodies at least, that bendix dual diaphragm booster was used up until 1971, when they switched to a larger single diaphragm booster. For the wagons and Imperials, they moved to a rounded design case dual diaphragm booster.

The listing does say the mounting plate at the firewall does likely need to be modified, so it apparently isn't exactly correct, as mentioned above. I guess I will just have my old cores rebuilt by Booster Dewey or similar rebuilder. Booster Dewey has always done a good rebuild for me. But his wait times might be lengthy at times.

My PJ unit is in another shop so no side by side comparison (sorry)
Like many re-pop parts on the market the PJ unit has it's share of difference from an OEM part. Major differences include the way the shell halves are joined together (similar but not the same). Along with the PJ unit having 3 steps on the rear half housing vs original having only one step in the rear half of the housing from the joining point to the firewall mounting location.
The PJ unit is a good alternative if originality is of no concern in your build. I'll wait and continue to wait for my units from booster dewey.

The C-Bodies had dual diaphragm boosters from 68-70 on all models with power disc brakes. In '71 the bendix booster was still standard on police cruisers, tow package equipped vehicles and some of the early production disc brake cars. The larger single diaphragm booster was introduced as a lower cost replacement for the bendix after the production run had started, not sure of the dates.

I had luck with a later model dual - 1975 and up. Part 54-73309 and available and affordable. No rebuild, just buy and install. Bolted up no problem to my originally 318 69 fury. Rod was perfect length for my originally power drum pedals Only had to widen the center hole in the mounting plate that is sandwiched by booster and firewall. Needs more diameter for the rubber boot. Just in case people are looking for options.

But I do think there might be shifter linkage clearance issues if you have column shift.
