So i have a chance to get a rear a/c set up. Complete. I thought i should get it because maybe there is someone out there that would love to add it to there car. But im not sure if imperial owners would actually be interested in doing something like that if there car didnt already have it. any thoughts out there on this? thanks. r

"complete" would mean everything is there...
Heater box, fan, tubes from front to rear, duct work,
wiring, vacuum lines, switches, and dash panel utilizing the switches...

There are some people who would do the installation but as with everything
price dictates desire...

I have the roof mounted rear a/c unit in my wagon, it is a complex installation. In addition to what Xenon mentions above you should get the underhood high and low pressure lines. Since the rear system lines connect to them with tees it would be helpful if only as templates for new lines.

This would be a major undertaking to install. If someone still has access to R-12, it might be worth doing as part of a complete restoration, but otherwise it would just be a PIA. These units will eat compressors often on R-134a because the compressor oil does not circulate well enough to keep the compressor lubricated. This is an even bigger problem on dual evaporator systems. It could probably be made to work doing the Sanden conversion, but that would be a lot of work just to have rear seat air.

I totally agree - but that cold rear air is mighty nice!

Lol! I’m not upset that my ‘67 Imp doesn’t have ac at all.

Xenon Thanks for the reply. Yes everything is there. All that you mentioned. So im good there. But like you said. The price is important as well. And of course the work getting all that out of the car. LOL would you be willing to share your opinion on what a fair price might be for the set up? That might help me decide if i should take it on. thanks

Dave. I thought all those things as well. PIA.. freon. And if anyone actually wants it in there car. So im just not sure. Its just really hard for me to see these old parts come and go and not try to save everything. LOL

I can’t speak for 1967 or 1968 specifically but I installed factory rear air in my 1965 Imperial LeBaron and it was easy and straightforward other than physically attaching the unit itself. The L-brackets were spot-welded to the car so took some effort to remove them.

Yes. I removed the complete system from the car. And yes its actually not that hard. all i had to do was remove the back seat. everything else ran under the car and in the trunk. So it wasnt that bad. I will probably list the complete set up on line soon with the other parts i got from the car. r
