Getting my Omni GLHS ready for autocross

Lol it's pretty low budget. In the early 2000's I picked it up in Florida and dollied it back to the Chicagoland area. Been converted to TII specs, 52lb injectors, Cummins intercooler, and a custom tune programmed for 25 or so pounds of boost. Trans has been rebuilt with thicker spacers to tighten up the clutch packs and it runs a reverse manual valve body. Many years ago this drivetrain was in a Shadow that ran 12.7...needless to say it's fun breaking the street tires loose from a roll

Was this steering wheel a Shelby Option ?
Looks like the ones from Italian manufacturer MOMO that also made that style for BMW-Alpinas of the early 80s

Man that is a cool wagon. I wouldn't even consider painting it ,,it looks great!! Low budget you say?? I think that was the whole appeal of these cars. What BIG intercooler you got hiding up front you lucky guy,,,I refused to cut my Omni and went with the Indy intercooler. 52 lbs injectors are those the +40%? I run those too if so. What cal? I run the FWD Performance cal the Cindy burned for me on a SMEC computer.I have only run 19 to 20 psi even though I run a 3 bar map but it's alot lower now cause I don't want to fix anything lol. If it was my old Glht I would have cut away for a IC. I put in a huge IC in my Caravan turbo I pulled from a junkyard Volvo somethin or other. What weird cars these were during very strange era in car production. Turbo Omni's., wagons, minivans [some with a 5 speed too!]and pickups, even saw a turbo 1 Limo ,,what a hoot these cars are. Thanks for posting the wagon. First wagon pick,,big honkin Tach ,shift light,[is that an old CYBERDINE 1 volt O2 sensor gauge? I used to run that},Shelby steering wheel and a HAMBURGER<<I love it! You rock!:steering:

My Shelby has a Momo leather steering wheel and shifter knob from the factory.

Thanks @Turboomni. I could go on and on about my FWD stuff but I'd rather not tie up your thread...when I get some spare time (this winter? Haha) maybe I'll start a turbo-mopar thread.
And yes @cm23uoc that's a 4 spoke Shelby wheel. He also had a 3 spoke wheel.

Well I did my first autocross yesterday and learned a lot! I knew from guys that have been doing this in my area and on forums and such that HP is not the primary formula for success and can hurt you. First thing I did was lower the boost to it's lowest possible boost which is 7 psi. Why let the car get me in trouble. There were over 80 cars there and the SCCA did a great job of running the event. Everyone there could get 6 runs. Got there early and was advised to walk the course as many times as needed to get it imprinted in your mind and walking the line you anticipate you will want to in the car.
I walked the course 5 times as it was a beautiful day. Lots of big modern Camaros and Mustangs with big tires and exhausts being beaten by Miatas and modded Civic hatchbacks . No I didn't win nuthin but was faster than many and pleased how I did and the Omni did which I can say is a better car than I am a driver. I have some more setup to do on the car. I believe I had the oldest car there [ 33 year old Omni!] and it drew a lot of attention, the kids were all over the thing and loved it. I think I am hooked!!! A few pics ,

1987 GLHS #0075. California car, I bought it about 10 years ago with 70k miles. It now has 78k miles. Very original, stock, rust free condition.
1987 Lancer #176. Cloth / Manual car. I bought it 7 years ago from Portland, OR. Has about 135k miles on it. Also all very original, stock, rust free. Needs a paint job, but since I bought my '65 Polara 880 I'll have to sell this car.

 Almost sold my GLHS and glad I didn't. I love having one of the largest and smallest Mopars made. You are keeping the Charger GLHS yes? If so you are keeping the better of the two.
Thanks for posting ,very nice cars!

Yes, I'm keeping the GLHS. I might keep the Lancer too, since I won't be able to sell it for what it's worth to me (don't tell my wife, though!), but I'm out of garage space, and the Lancer has been kicked outside to sit in the snow. It would be nice to see it go to a good home, since it's such a rare car.

Edit: I know what you mean about owning owning one of the smallest and largest Mopars. I like that my Polara and GLHS are polar opposite driving experiences! :D

A local sign shop has been a big help recreating decals for my Polara, he just purchased this Shelby Charger and is planning to restore it.

It was a 1987 Dodge Shelby Charger that originally got me into Shelby Dodges. I picked it up for a daily driver around 1996/97. It took until 2009 to find my GLHS.

Yes they did and I believe there was a Shelby version too. But I don't remember if it was an actual Shelby version or a Mopar with his badge on it.
I will investigate.
