So I have this friend

Some people, probably most people, aren't cut out for project cars. They may like the IDEA of having a project car, but once it gets boring or difficult or they get stuck on something and don't know how to proceed, or something urgent comes up in their life that requires their spare time, it's so easy to just never make the time to get back to it.

In this guy's case, it sounds like he doesn't realize he's buying a project car at all. He thinks he's getting a deal, but it's really a "deal" because he's buying someone else's problem that they didn't want to "deal" with themselves.
Pretty much nailed it.

I see your point but from what I have read here he is not lacking in funds to see any problem through that he is not up to fixing. He just sees something else he can have a wet dream about. Like said before here he should of gotten a turn key new car.
I think that’s what he thought he was getting.

It’s not so much that he now has too much money in the cars. Lord that happens. It’s that he has well over $40 grand in two cars he’s not driving. That’s what sucks.

He had a lean, grizzled, intense look
a guy i knew only as Quinn: "when your in the middle of the Mojave fuckin' desert, and you're a hundred miles from the nearest fuckin' phone, and your fuckin' bike breaks down, you better know how to fix the fuckin' thing or you're gonna end up fuckin' dead." his words, as spoken. strength, self-reliance, resourcefulness, ingenuity, impressive. the path i chose to follow.

There's basically two ways to make a decision about buying car. One is to use some common sense and the other is to do it basically on emotions. Realistically, buying a "toy" needs a combination of both.

Your buddy used no common sense and bought it strictly on emotions.... But I think we know that.

Here would be my suggestion... Sell one of the cars and use the $$ to fix the other one. Find a pro to do the work. Use some common sense on finding and working with that pro.

Too many times I see multiple cars sitting around and not getting worked on or driven because the owner has dragged home more cars than he can handle. This is a case of one car being too much... Let alone two cars.

It's a problem with the schools teaching the test. Learning and understanding have been replaced with method and recall.
Instead of answering test questions by knowing the subject they learn to just get a answer.

People with this psychological disability do well in the Sports Memorabilia business. Buy/trade/sell & repeat to infinity.

I tried to talk him out of the Vette. I’ll be of my racing Facebook pals who’s bought a few Vettes told me to get him in a head lock & stop him. I of course didn’t go that far but I did warn him it was a money trap....and that appears to be what it is. I’ll never forget the day I was at Rockingham Dragway racing in some big money bracket race they were putting on. The guy pitted across from me had a big $100 thousand dollar tow rig & trailer. Nice ! Opened the doors & out backs a $10 thousand dollar Vega. I was expecting an expensive ex pro car, but no. Apparently no money left for that.

Guilty as charged.

Guilty as charged.
We all have been guilty.

But you know... One of the many things I learned being in business is to eliminate as much emotion out of decisions as possible. It makes things so much easier when you can turn that off... or turn it down. Ask any good car salesman... They depend on the excitement of the buyer to sell cars. People want a new car... Not necessarily need a new car.

Buying a "toy" really has to have balance. There's no possible way to eliminate the emotions. If you eliminated all the emotion, you'd never buy a "toy" car. But if you can tamp the emotion down and start looking at more pragmatically, you start researching the market and making a decision of risk v. reward.

sounds like he quickly lost the spark. maybe if he went to a marque specific car show or joined a local car club specific to his cars,it would recharge his batteries. if nothing else he would gain contacts to repair or sell them.

more money than brains.
As well as more money than sense!

I don't know why you worry so much about it when it's not your money? I wouldn't like him even more if I ever met him too with what you say about him!
