66 Sport Fury-From The Beginning

My wife just sent this pic to me from home! She's off to the paint shop!!!

I know, it's just another danged photo of my rust bucket on the back of a rollback but I'm excited to say the least.....

Do you have any idea when you will get it back. I guess it will depend on what they find.
I just returned from meeting with the guy. We went over everything and I gave him the paint code. Looks like 2-3 weeks. He doesn't have a bunch of space so he don't play around.
Glad I saved the doors from my parts car cause we need one of them.
We found a 2 square foot area in the trunk that needs replacing.
He's gonna weld in the sway bar perches that I removed from the parts car.
Remove the vert top and paint the roof frame.
My trim and grill are in Michigan and won't be back for at least another month.
Hood is repairable.
The car is being taken down to bare metal and they'll start tomorrow.

My suggestion is to pull that trim off the trunk of you hadn’t planned on it. It’s quite easy and rust loves those areas.

Rod We're removing everything.
Any recommendations and/or advice for new vert tops? I need to replace existing.

There's a mob in Hicksville NY called Automat Company autointeriors.biz they claim to have tops for most everything and I'm sure they'd be able to assist you.

Wishing you all the best with your ride.

I purchased mine from Convertible top guys. Went with the canvas top but it also comes in vinyl. Has detachable back vinyl window. The boot and cover need to be purchased as well.

Spent a little time going over approach and details with the interior guy...

Trying to keep this moving!

Headed over to the body shop to drop off the spare passenger door and the sway bar perches and this is what I found!
These guys aren't playing around. They've uncovered lots of previous repairs to the body, hood, and trunk lids.
I have a missing rear passenger window regulator. Anyone know if the front and rear regulators are the same?
They're still amazed at the lack of rust thru in the floors.

Looks good. I might see it myself on Monday. My wagon has to go back for one rust spot under the hood that everyone missed seeing before.

Based upon feedback from the body shop, it looks like I may need to ramp up efforts to bring the red parts car home a little sooner than expected....

This is what we're dealing with on the hood & trunk lids!
I dropped off the parts car trunk lid yesterday but could sure use a bondo free hood????

You would think that someone out there would have an extra hood laying around. I have spare Dodge, Chrysler, and Imperial hoods for 1966, but sadly no Plymouths.

I checked Car-Part.com, and the closest one to you looks to be in Cartersville, GA. It's a decent haul from Virginia, but could be worth it in the end if it's a real nice hood. Bodywork on hoods is bad news. Between the flexing and the engine heat, repairs involving body filler don't hold up very well. I know you asked some time ago if '65 and '66 is the same, and I think the answer is yes. The salvage yards are listing them as the same, and that would go off of the Hollander Interchange numbers. I looked it up in the Chrysler parts books and they show a different part number '65 vs. '66, but that could be due to a supersession. The hood in Connecticut is also on ebay, and it's very rusty on the underside and way overpriced. There are two in Arizona not seen in my screen shot, but shipping could be an issue.

I've been looking for a good while now Jeff. Three cars and not one good hood! Thanks for the assist!

Gearing up to be another productive weekend.
Brought Red the Vert Parts Car home today to begin scavenging the last of the parts we need!!!
Also ordered the seat covers and bucket seat backs from Legendary this morning while they were still on sale.....

Meanwhile, body work/paint is ongoing. I'll stop by there this evening on the way home from work to get an update.
