Radiator Recore Cost

My bill from last week ...

But that hasn't changed much from 13 years ago when I did the last one.

@polara71, I just got back from Burton's. How do you like their work? He's calling me with a price, but I'm not going copper. He said that would be about $700 and 5 weeks to get it delivered. I'm looking at $400 to $500 for the 26 inch, in about a week. I plan on starting the engine for the first time next weekend, so timing will be key.

I looked at the Spectra Premium on Rock Auto, with tax and shipping it's about $325, so going with the local guy and getting my original tanks will be worth the extra money.

1983 was the last time I had a Mopar rad re-cored and it cost all of $80. That was a shop in Sewel, NJ, so yeah, I'm outta touch with this stuff.

My turn for a recore. About 15 year ago I had it flushed and repaired, in the process they capped off a couple of tubes that were past repair. I was thinking I would do it this winter, but it is now starting to seep. In another area. Not dripping on the floor yet, but probably not far away.
Mine is a 22” no shroud, No a/c 2 core. I think I will try a Hi efficiency but stay with the 2 cores. I will see what the radiator shop comes up with. I see there is a fresh 22” recore for sale in this site but is for a ‘65 and the top hose is on the right. Mine is closer to the center.

Don’t forget you can move the inlets for next to nothing at most shops. Let’s you use just about any radiator in any car. I moved mine around to go from 440 set up to my 318 perfect no hassle drop in. Using my same hoses.

I am too original. I will re-core. Dropped it off this morning.

Quote of around $600. Should have the core in town Friday or at latest Monday.

I got my radiator back ended up going from a 2 core 22” to a high efficiency 3 core so the total bill was $700. $25 of it was probably shipping the new core. Plus he fixed my over flow hose retainers on the side bracket. They are the only show in about 200 miles. I am happy with it. On the highway in the mid 80’s it doesn’t go over 1/2 on the gauge and sticks between the first two lines (3/8 -1/2)My old one ran about 5/8 or just over 1/2 on the highway.
Around town at lights and idling in the garage when checking the tune up it will go up to About 5/8. With my old on a hot day in traffic it would get close to the line just before hot (7/8). But never boiled over. There were a couple of times I put it in neutral and sped up the fan. I shouldn’t have any cooling issues now.

That looks so nice.

Not apples to apples But? I picked up an '87 Lebaron GTC TI coupe with 66K on it that had spent it's whole life in Anaheim, Socal 'til I found it and had it transferred back to Wilmington, N.C. in the fall of '15. The original owners knew nothing about preventive maintenance, sooo it's been an adventure bring it back. My first trip was to the only radiator shop in town for a re-man or re-core. Imagine my surprise when the owner of that shop(70 YO Woman AND HER BUSINESS THAT SHE'D STARTED IN THE MID '70s) climbed a ladder and pulled a New, still in the factory box CORRECTED Modine Radiator for my little jewel. $149.xx installed and out the door including a flush and 4 gallons of 50X50 mix. And there are still real folks out there Lady's and Gent's and when we find 'um we sing their praises and play it forward. Bonnies Radiator Shop(her last Name) Jer
