1969 Imperial progress thread

Another load of parts is back from painting. :) I'm really happy with how it came out!

To find the right texture for the dashparts was not that easy. First attempt was just a smooth, matte finish. But that was just not right. The second attempt was a special "textured paint", but that was waaaaay to "gritty".

He sanded away the grit particles leaving the rough texture of this paint and coated it again with a matte clear and it came out exactly how I wanted it. I think it looks perfect!

And here it is, the brand new Windshield. Fresh from the mold :D

Green tint, blue wedge and with integrated antenna like in the 70 Imperial. Bye bye ugly rod Antenna.

I don't wanna know what you paid for this haha. The windshield on my 70 is cracked and I'll need a new one eventually.
For a brand new windshield for a car over 50 years old made to your likings, 835€ ($990) is not too bad. It's made in Finland tho. I was told the company there bought all the original molds from the factorys.

Was the Finnish manufacturer Kuttilan lasi?
They are making their own molds in cases someone is willing to pay for that, or you can even make your own mold according their instructions if car is one of a kind. (chopped etc.) I know they have the molds for fuselage.
I don´t know if they have bought original molds. Car manufacturers do not make windshields on their own, glasses are bought from supplier.

As is the case with other machinery in most cases.
I´ve been designing landfill compactors at Tana and all glass was bought by our own molds from Jaakko-tuote, which also does hardened and multilayer glasses here in Finland.

Yes, it's from Kuttilan.

Obviously, they haven't bought the molds from Chrysler itself. ;)
But I was told they bought the original molds from the Original Equipment Manufacturer.
How true that is, I don't know. But in the end it doesn't matter, as long as it fits perfectly. :)

It will fit perfectly! They have made quite a few of those and fitment has not ever been a problem.
The prices are somewhere from 300€ up, depending what options you want in it. Shading, tint and especially the antenna makes the price go lot higher.
As it has with yours..:wideyed:

But not bad price for this kind of item!

I can tell you exactly:

495€ for the windshiel, tinted green with blue wedge.
80€ for the antenna
145€ for personal delivery
115€ taxes
----
835€

After the autoglass strike in 57 Chrysler undertook to make their own glass (Safeguard brand...division name?... whatever) as the strike messed with the production of their cars.

That's why on later 50's on up Chrysler glass, it has the Pentastar on it. Most Mopar glass from 58-mid 200s was made at the Chrysler McGraw plant. This is modern jeep glass, but we've all seen the Pentastar on our glass...you get the idea.
