Hey guys, so if you follow my other threads you knowni am rebuilding a 318 poly out of a 1965 Plymouth Fury. I started to put the bottom end back together and moved on to installing the piston rings once the crank and everything was back in. I was installing the oil ring on piston 5 and noticed the skirt is cracked as you can see in the pic. Looking to see if anyone has NOS and is willing to part with just one piston head. Any help would be amazing and I would be forever in your debt.

Not that I have any, but it would help if you were to let us know if you need standard size or what oversize you are working with.

Yes sorry about that, it would be standard size, but I found some on ebay!

Are there rights and lefts due to valve reliefs?

Frankly, if I found 2 cracked pistons, I'd probably buy a whole new set. If 2 have gone bad, how close are the other 6 to going as well.
As for fixing them, I've never heard of it being done but that doesn't mean it hasn't been.

Good point, I was trying to stay within a budget. The original miles were 71,000. I dont plan on ripping on it or racing it, more or less a nice street cruiser. If I could locate 2 piston heads STD. Size for the 65 318 A series engine NOS or used in good condition that would be awesome

I understand budget. And I have used used pistons in the past with no problems. I will just assume the used rings was a joke.
When I was younger I probably would have done the same, but anymore I just don't have the ambition to do things over if there is a problem.
Good luck.

used pistons? are you using the old rings as well? thats low budget. a recipe for disaster.

No not using the old rings, im replacing all of those and all new bearings and gasket, pretty much doing a refresher. Ive attached photos

Not sure what you mean?

What I mean is look at the top of the piston, it is not symmetrical on the valve reliefs. So there is a right and left piston. Turn it over and up inside there should be a part number inside of a factory piston.

make sure you get the correct replacement piston, amend put them all in the correct hole so piston doesn’t hit the valves.

I'm attending closely to this thread, as I plan to do something very similar with a 400 within the next 12-18 months! Carry on and bless your work.

It is because it is a poly head or an A series engine and has canted valves. So yes I will make sure I get the correct ones!
