Hello everyone,

Would any of you guys please help me determine a price point for my car. I am looking to sell it but don't know a realistic price for it. I want to sell it to fund another project. It has been garage kept it's whole life as far as I know, at least since 1982 when the man I bought it from bought it from the original owner. It has spent its entire life in South Carolina. It is in original condition except it had a repaint to the exterior about 30 years ago. The interior is original, carpet, seat upholstery, floormats, etc.. It cranks up easy and drives amazing. I don't have a picture of the engine bay or trunk at this time but they are in very nice condition. Has original spare tire and is numbers matching car. I have the certicard, 2 broadcast sheets, window sticker, and owners manual provided by dealership.

Issues needing addressing:
-The passenger side quarter window needs a window track double roller (aluminum style c-shaped one with double wheels) as the one that glides on the front curved track is broken.
-The car has sat in the previous owners car garage for an unknown amount of years without regular driving and as a result the transmission shifts kinda hard. I think the seals/valves within the trans might be hard or stuck. It may need some transmission conditioner and driving to soften everything up? I'm not sure, I'm not a mechanic.
-It has a couple paint chips here and there which is typical for a 55 year old car but overall it is in great shape IMHO. The bumpers are nice but need to be rechromed a some point.

The underside of the car looks great. There is no rust that I can find anywhere. Overall it's a really nice unmolested car. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you all!

Best,
Dodge

I apologize in advance for my chopped up looking post. My pictures double posted as well... not sure where I messed that up?

Your '66 looks to be a really nice car, and based on what you say about it's condition and problems, I would rate the car as being between a No. 2 and a No. 3 as regards condition / value. That puts you somewhere between $7000 and $12,000. Here is a "general" guide However, it is only a negotiation starting point - not gospel. AND. . . The car is apparently rust free, therefore, it should demand a premium, since it doesn't need expensive repairs to rusty floors and frame rails.

Current Value | 1966 CHRYSLER 300 Value

BTW: A picture of the fender tag would be most appreciated.

For $7000 I'd be hooking up my trailer right now right now!

383 or 440? Engine pics would help to determining a price

No problem. Just hit “edit” in bottom left of your post. You can delete, add photos and correct any mis-spelling. ( I use it a lot!)

It looks like a dandy. $10,000 would be my guess.

Does the A/C work? What is the condition of the tail lamp lenses and bezels and the front turn signal lenses? Close up photos would be helpful of the tail lamps and turn signal lamps in the bumpers as these lenses tend to get brittle with age & bezels typically pit badly or break and are expensive to re-chrome and impossible to find and will be a factor in what the car is worth. Consider having a transmission shop diagnose the issue so we can ballpark the cost of work on the transmission.

Looks like a clean base model 300 coupe with a/c. About 2.5 hours from me.

This one sold on eBay for $18K 1966 Chrysler 300 Series | eBay

In some ways, it's comparable for location and condition, but it also has the 440 engine and is red (red cars always bring more $). Yours has a couple issues, but really nothing that would stop you from selling the car for a reasonable price.

I think $12.5K could be a good price if that trans is OK. You can always come down on price.

Here is a picture of it.

Here are some pictures of the engine and truck.

Thank you all again very much for you comments and opinions!

I've been on the fence about selling it... I might just keep it for now. Very minimum I will have the trans looked at and try to get that window fixed. I need to find a replacement window roller. The particular one that's broke is connected to the aluminum frame that's attached to the glass bottom. At some point I might try to get a picture of it to see if anyone on FCBO has one they might sell. I also know Murray Park may have one as well, just gotta check.

The A/C control shifts great and the air blows, but just not cold. All the lenses are intact and look pretty decent (none are broken). All lights work on the car. Radio works too.

Online "WIW?" questions always bother me. A price from a few pictures and an "ok" description? Basically, a request for a free appraisal. Granted, you've provided much more info and pics than other WIW inquiries have, no doubt! Here's what you should do, @Dodge -

1) A general comment not directed at you @Dodge, since you've covered this well - What is the history of the car? How long have you owned it? Are you the second owner? Third? Fifteenth? Bought from a private party, dealer, or auction?
2) Seek out comparable cars online in various venues, even the auctions. What are they SELLING for, versus the asking price?
3) Do your research! Asking us what we think is one thing. Actually looking for others that have sold is another, and the right thing.
4) Be 100% honest about ALL issues that you are aware about with your car (not saying you aren't here).
5) Hire a non-biased, professional vehicle appraiser to do an honest appraisal on your car, and make sure that appraiser is known by the insurance companies as a knowledgeable individual. Some out there will ask "what do you want this to be worth?" versus doing their job.
6) You will always over-appraise your own car.
7) You likely have a price in mind, if you're selling. After doing most, if not all, of the steps listed, advertise the car! Set a price! If your message inbox is empty, you might have it over-priced; and you can always come down.

I know what I'd give for it, based on what I know on '65 and '66 cars.

Were this 300 mine, I'd keep it and enjoy it! Very nice car you have there.

I had the same quarter window roller issue on the power windows in my '66 convertible. The roller is not serviceable. It is permanently attached to the aluminum frame in which the window glass resides. I had to buy one from Murray (not cheap) in order to repair my quarter window.

I would suggest you keep this car, fix all the issues and join us at Carlisle on July 9 -11. I'll reserve you a space, a libation of your choice and a seat in the shade. I guarantee you'll have a great time.

I might just keep it for now.

That's a really nice car and you speak of how "amazing" the car drives.

You know what? Keep it. You'll be hard pressed to find something nicer and at the prices we tossed out, the reality is the car has more value as a nice driver with some good history than it has resale value. If that was mine, it would be in the estate sale.
