it’s unbelievable how this disgrace to our country is continuing to try to spin his way out of this crime offence that should see all involved in the slammer.

I hope that our next PM is better at not getting caught

I sure hope that Doug Ford doesn’t get put into the position either as a retribution election...
he is another caught up in scandal on the provincial level...

Protecting jobs, what a pile of crap. If SNC goes away, the work that they were doing is still going to be done. All the labour and materials will still need to be supplied for these projects, just with a different corporate leader. The only jobs being "protected" are those at the top of SNC and the Liberals.

SNC is a corrupt firm and have been for decades. They have been caught many times with their hand in the cookie jar and have proven they are corrupt. The present government have just proven they are also corrupt by changing laws to protect these dishonest people and when the AG doesn’t go for it they try to persuade her with unrelenting pressure to the point of demoting her.
This is reminiscent of the Chretien years and the corrupt liberal government of his years. All swept under the rug.

I haven't been following this issue closely, but at the center of it, SNC-Lavalin has been accused of bribery to win construction contracts in Libya. If convicted, Gov't of Canada "integrity rules" state that SNC-Lavalin would be barred from bidding on government contracts for 10 years.

This article arrived in my inbox this morning. Seems like a decent summary, though I have no idea if they've omitted critical details.
SNC Lavalin CEO urged cabinet to change policies ‘expeditiously’ in 2017 letter - Design Engineering

Apparently Canada is already moving to change its integrity rules to harmonize them with the US, UK and France. The new rules would presumably be more favorable to SNC-Lavalin's case. The PM wanted the justice minister to delay prosecution of SNC-Lavalin until the new rules are in place.

For a supposed transparent Government this reeks of typical Liberal bias towards their benefactors and campaign supporters. I am disgusted that this shallow trust fund man-child is in charge of our Country. They are espousing misdirection and alternative facts crafted by their lawyers to mitigate the damage their illegal manipulation of our laws to benefit a corrupt Quebec company and it sickens me. If you are Canadian and you still vote for these idiots I fear for our Country. No wonder when asked 50% of Albertans would consider separation. Hundreds of thousands jobs lost in the energy sector and they are breaking the law for 9000 Quebec job losses that wouldn’t be lost anyways as the work would go to others. They are literally rewriting laws to benefit this one company so they can hold onto votes in Quebec. This is madness and they need to be stopped.

Welcome to our {former} nightmare.

I really hate how the Liberals tried to sneak the change in the law through a budget bill...

After watching this thing unwind, I'm quite surprised how many of the players, both in government and SNC are old buddies dating all the way back to university days. I also wonder how many, especially Trudeau, own large blocks of SNC shares. The idea that "under the table" deals are an acceptable way doing business has always been a problem in Quebec. I suspect it is also a problem within the Liberal party. This corruption is nothing new, I remember the games played when Expo 67 was built. The politics, payola, the mob and crooked construction companies made a freaking fortune which took Montreal many years to pay off and nearly bankrupted the poor taxpayers. I don't know, but I'll bet SNC was also in the middle of that mess. Be interesting to see how the millennials solve this problem, if that is, they even try.

The only viable solution as I see it is western separation, otherwise our grandchildren will be dealing with this corruption and cronyism coming out of Ottawa 20 years from now. And by western separation I’m including most of Ontario who share similar conservative values right along with the west and some of the Maritime provinces. If this so called prime minister is re-elected in October there will be a major revolt, guaranteed.

There is considerable support for this. Need to at least include western Ontario from the lakehead west. Then we can do something with all the oil reserves we have without worrying about the corrupt east.

As an American, please believe me that neither LIBERALS nor CONSERVATIVES have a monopoly on corruption. Power corrupts & absolute power corrupts absolutely. Money seems to do the same thing. I honestly don't believe that many politicians or political leaders, OR people running big businesses anywhere in the world have clean hands....which totally sucks from my point of view. AT LEAST we both live in countries (USA/Canada) where there is at least a chance that corrupt leaders/business owners go to jail.

Very true, however in Canada’s case it’s not just the current party. This PM believes we should hand over elements of our sovereignty to the UN and conform to their immigration policies. He is implementing a national carbon tax that he is convinced will change the world, and wants to phase out oil and gas production by 2030 in favor of wind and solar. In our climate houses need heat and in our vast geography we need to travel great distances. This guy grew up in a political family who’s pockets are lined by the system. He lives in a dream world and is an embarrassment to Canada.

Ugh...Another political thread...:stop:
I watch the news dont need to see it here on FCBO
