These are some pic's I took during the summer of 1969, my first summer back from Viet Nam. My brother, a friend and I crewed for Wally Booth, his only season racing a Mopar. A SS/E hemi Super Bee. It was a great summer of adventure traveling the eastern tracks and NHRA nationals. Best ET. with the Super Bee was a 10:99 at York us 30.

These shots were from Detroit Dragway . Taken with a Kodak box camera. I was 14/15 then and would hitch hike there from Lincoln Park, where I grew up, every weekend. The manufacturers used Detroit Dragway as a testing grounds against the other brands. The best of Mopar, Chevy, Pontiac, Olds, Ford etc. showed up to claim bragging rights. Usually the Max Wedge and hemi Mopar's were victorious.

First off, Thank You for your service in Viet Nam. These pictures you have posted are great. I was a huge fan of drag racing when I was a kid and the pics brought back a lot of memories. The factory horsepower wars were great for us fans, and for us Mopar guys, the bragging rights.

Drag racing was like a religion to me back in the day. Especially SS class racing. They moved away from that and introduced bracket racing, That was it for me. I lost interest when tow vehicles would win the eliminations.
The use of electronics and computers diminished the human element too.

Very cool pics. In this one he's racing Dick Landy if I'm not mistaken.
