So my baby has been sitting in a garage for the last 10 years or so and has less than 40K miles on her. I am all over the engine but what about the tranny? Do I flush and add a new filter and fluid, what seals should I replace or should I have it rebuilt. Budget budget budget.

Was it a wet garage or was there a dehumidifier?

How does the fluid look now? It will be down several quarts from sitting that long. You can remove the pan and drain the converter and refill it all.

Or you can Top it off and drive it and see how it works and where it leaks.

sitting won’t really hurt the trans, but seals could be leaking now.

It's leaking pretty good up front near the Torque Converter and down plenty, I added 3 quarts just to get her to crawl.

A transmission that sits will leak. Get the car running, then take it to a good transmission shop that knows old Torqueflights. They'll fix you up. Did so to my '70 when it had leaking seals. Been great since!

I would start by pulling the pan, this will tell you a lot about the condition of the transmission. If the pan is full of clutch debris or metal, you are headed for a rebuild. If the fluid still looks good and there is minimal debris, do a band adjustment, replace the filter and drive it. You will know pretty quickly if this transmission has and serious leaks that need to be dealt with.

Make sure to check the fluid in neutral, with engine running obviously.

Getting an old auto sealed up tight is a project!! I just rebuilt my '66 727 and is was leaking from every place it possibly could. Dropping the pan is also a good way of inspecting as has already been written. Adjusting the bands is a simple process that can be done easily once the pan is off. One is on the outside and doesn't need the pan off at all. You need an Inch pound torque wrench and a 5/16" square socket. Yes. square!!

Good luck getting her back to life.
