    Thanks for all your comments on this. I have the answer, and it is that my description of this piece was somewhat convoluted. This is the thin shield that goes between the inner fender (engine compartment) and the tire and wheel assembly. I really do not know what the correct name for it is...

    All: Finally the 300 comes out of hibernation after 17 years in a warm bed. Going to shop tomorrow to have entire front suspension installed, new brakes, etc and then to my paint guy for freshened up firewall, inner fenders, grille support etc. I do have a couple of questions for all the guys...
