‘70 Plymouth Fury III Vert 383

We have that information for 1970 Polara convertibles, thanks to @polara71, @Bill Watson, @kmccabe56, @Fratzog and several others from the old Yahoo Board, but I have not seen it for Fury 'verts.

You will find some information in this thread that is a repository of information about the 1970 C-body "Last Convertibles" -- It'd be great if you could contribute info about your car in it!

Thanks Ayilar! I will look at the Polara info, and also the "Last Convertibles" thread to see what info
I can contribute.

I have one additional question relating to Dimitri's thread. Is there a particular value to "early builds" such as Dimitri's find? If so, I'm curious what drives that. My Fury's build date is Oct 22 1969 which is probably not an early build, but I'm still curious about the concept nonetheless. Thanks.

Look forward to your write-up and pics! As for an "early-build" vs. "later-build", AFAIK there is not a specific value. On the Polaras, early builds (first month or so) have a different rear bumper. Later builds (starting Jan. 1970) have a different hood over the instruments that, in my experience, is an improvement. On the 1970 Plymouth, I am not aware of such changes -- but then again I will be happy to learn of any.

PS: if a car were a super-early build like a promotional vehicle, that'd be different in my book. To me, that fact might affect valuation. The same would be true of, say, a Rose Bowl car in the case of a 1970 Polara 'vert.

Thanks Ayilar - very interesting and helpful!

Happy to help. I have added links to my post above, so that you can easily see what I alluded to (running changes to the bumper and dash pad on the Polara).

@Dimitri Romanenko and @Zippy22 -- here is some information since you are interested (see also here):

1. The late Bill M. (@Fury440) compiled a great information set about his own T-code Fury III convertible and its restoration. He posted it on a website that appears to have been taken down: sadly, Bill passed away last year. Fortunately, a lot of the information that he put together has been archived on the Way Back machine here. The information therein is IMHO irreplaceable, so you may want to look at it as you go about your own restorations.

2. Bill was the authority on Fury 'verts in general and T-code Fury 'verts in particular. He owned his car from new, and searched far and wide for information on what he estimated were not many T-code 1970 Fury 'verts produced (out of 1,952 total). As of 2016, he had found 7 original T-code cars -- more photos are here and a table showing how those seven are equipped is here:

3. Since then, 2 more T-codes have popped up on FCBO: PM27T0D148353 and PM27T0D129913

4. Bill focused on T-code cars, and did not keep track of how many N-code, L-code, or G-code Fury III ragtops were produced in 1970.

5. I am only aware of 3 N-code Fury 'verts around. @Jeff knew of 2 as of 2017, and @Dimitri Romanenko's is the only one I have seen surfacing since.

6. Note that all the know T-code cars' SBDs are from before Nov. 7, 1969. However, while Dimitri's (PM27N0D105754) and the Oregon project cars (PM27N0D108414) are both August builds, @Jeff's DY2 is an April 7 build (PM27N0D233592). In other words, it is not the case that Plymouth stopped building high-power Fury 'verts after a few months.

Cheers!

PS: @sauterd this answers part of your question here.

Hi Ayilar - this is some AMAZING stuff. I have more to read and look forward to it. My Fury is an L but the link to the 2017 thread on N's and T's and what's "rare" is really interesting. Thanks again.

Some small chamber heads would raise the compression too. The only real difference in how the 400s ran vs the 383s, I believe.

Great score! Congrats!
CBODY67
The 400 engine had the biggest bore size of any Chrysler engine. Bigger than the 440 even. So with the right pistons and heads, these engine were pretty potent. My brother had a 400 Magnum in his 73 Charger.

And we can add, thanks to @T-revorNobody PM27N0D106955 to the list -- that is now 7 known N-code Fury iii 'verts.

And an update: thanks to @70 Sport Suburban we can add PM27N0D117723 as an eighth N-code Fury iii 'vert. This car lives in Ontario and its owner has agreed to share the info here:

@Fryken posted here about PM27N0D123564, his FY6 N-code Fury iii 'vert, after being contacted by @70 Sport Suburban

--> we now have 9 documented N-code 'verts, plus 2 known thanks to @marko -- that's almost twice as many as known N-code Polara 'verts.

@marko -- any update on getting the two fender tags from your friend, and sharing some more info about them?
