1 of 5 Hurst T-tops 1977 Chsysler Lebaron FS Barn Finds

One article I saw, back then, stated that only a certain amount of roof structure could be removed before the unit's structural integrity was compromised. Hence, the narrower Hurst tops that were installed after the vehicles were completed. A trim shop we did business with was an installation point in Fort Worth. I saw lots of those cars "in process". The unit-body Camaros/Firebirds were a little more tricky to make happen. It was common to expect water leaks, it seemed, but it was the closest thing to a convertible that could be had, back then.

When GM went to the "thin center bar" factory tops, that looked really good. Same issues with water leaks and "sun" with the tops installed. There were a few years that optional push-on headliner pieces could be had to block the sun with the tops installed.

On the GM F-cars (Camaro/Firebird), the same "wedges" that used to be on convertibles (door shell to door opening on the quarter panel) were used on the T-top cars. As if to let the wedges "meet" on rough roads and help decrease body flex in those situations. Those cars have had body flex issues, even with full tops, by observation.

One of the neater things from back then!
