Long time lurker, first time caller.

I have a 1966 New Yorker with a 440 and want to swap the belts out. I am attempting to get the idler pulley off so I can swap out all other belts behind it but am struggling. Do I take the two bolts into the engine block out (which then proceeds to weep coolant), or do I go for the nut on the pulley bolt?

Thanks in advance for your help!

That idler comes off as an assembly. The bolts are REALLY long and likely to break if you are not careful. I don't think the pulley was really meant to be taken off, but you probably could if you needed to.

I don't know what your idler looks like, but it should swivel out of the way enough to get any other belts off.

Should be two bolts holding the bracket. One the bracket swivels on and one in the slot to lock in place. Just loosen and swivel it in. If it's weeping antifreeze, just tighten while messing with the other belts.

Loosen the two 9/16" bolt heads a few turns and that whole bracket pivots to take the belt off.
