Kind of a peculiar situation here. I’m doing what I can to keep the car alive. I owned this car about 5-ish years ago and sold it as a project. It must have changed hands a few times since. Anyway, a guy I know called me up the other day and asked if I’d be interested in a 71 Imperial roller, since he knew I liked the “big cars”. I said sure. He sent me some pics and it was my old car. He said he was keeping the 440/727 combo but I could buy the rest. Other wise, he was going to advertise it on a derby site. Well, I went a checked it out. Still complete but hasn’t run in a while, maybe the whole time it’s been gone from me. I asked what it would take to keep it together. He said if someone had a complete forged crank 440 and 727 combo, he’d do some trading. Basically, I have the car on my trailer right now and I’m either supposed to take this engine/trans out for him, find replacements or I can sell it as is.

The car as a roller no eng/trans $800
For the complete car as-is $2500
For the complete car and a complete forged crank 440/727 to trade $800

This car isn’t far from being a driver. Just a fuel system clean out and some tires. It did drive when I had it. Odometer shows 18,000 so figure the car has 118,000. This is a 100% rust free Arizona and California car. The interior is also pretty good. I’ll be posting pics today.

I remember a few years ago when this was for sale....I think it was CL. It seems like we always see these things come and go and eventually we get another crack at them!

Thank you for the pictures of YM43T1C195855 . I am potentially interested in the whole car. I am posting my questions here so that others can benefit + so you don't waste your time PM'ing everyone back with the same answers:

--> Could you please post photos of the rear seat, door panels and jambs, headliner, rear tray, hood and front bumper, and body sides (in such a way that one can see how much body work is needed before a repaint, and what the interior needs).

--> Could you also answer the following questions:

1. does the engine turn?
2. which of the power toys (headlights and headlight doors; windows, vent windows, seats, and locks; radio, lights, wipers) still work?
3. why do we see the white headliner on some photos and not on others? Are the first two photos from back when you owned it?
4. what happened to the Imperial scrip on the rear fenders? what other trim is missing?
5. is the leather on the driver's front seat torn, or is it "just" cracked?
6. what's been done (good/bad) since you sold it as a project?

Thank you in advance.

I’ll get the pics requested. Here are the answers to your questions.

1. does the engine turn? Yes, it will run if the carb has fuel supplied to it. The card needs to be cleaned/rebuilt. It’s an AVS Carter, not a thermo-toilet.
2. which of the power toys (headlights and headlight doors; windows, vent windows, seats, and locks; radio, lights, wipers) still work? Everything worked when I had it. I will need to get a battery to test everything again.
3. why do we see the white headliner on some photos and not on others? Are the first two photos from back when you owned it? The first 2 pics are from when I owned it. The top is still there, kind of. It needs to be replaced.
4. what happened to the Imperial scrip on the rear fenders? what other trim is missing? I never had any of the emblems. They are all missing except the LeBaron C pillar emblems.
5. is the leather on the driver's front seat torn, or is it "just" cracked? The leather is cracked and torn on the driver seat. Back seat is split on top from the sun.
6. what's been done (good/bad) since you sold it as a project? I don’t think anything has been done to it since I last owned it.

All 4 door panels are good. Just the armrest/pocket door on the driver side is cracked. Headliner has a few snags. Package tray is good. Grille is from an earlier car. Body is straight, no body work needed. ZERO rust! Not even surface rust on this body.

So I have to the end of the month to make a decision on the car. The owner either wants the engine or the money. I really don’t want to gut this car for the following reasons.
A) it’s hot out here, 110+ degrees, and that’s a lot of work.
B) I’m trying to buy property so another project is not in my future. Less is more right now.
C) this car is so solid and could be made a driver with minor work.

Please, someone save this beautiful car.

Also, I may be able to deliver it to Carlisle in July. Inquire by PM if interested.

I looked at this Imperial the other day and it is everything Brad says it is. 100% rust free, complete and we'll worth the asking price. Would make a cool driver fairly easily. Somebody needs to step up and save this!

Looks like the value is in the body for 800.
The complete car at 2500 says that the owner values a 120k mile 440 and 727 at $1700. Who pays $1700 for a core motor? Steel crank or not.
I have steel crank 440's in storage that I have not seen in 25 years. But if somebody want to pay $1700 each, I"ll go dig those babys out.

A better deal that adds up the same would be somebody give him a core motor and trans and $800 for the complete car. That may be win win.

A steel crank 440 and transmission plus $800 is one of the options.

I think the car is worth $2500ish the way it is if it's all there. Not having to go look for parts lost from the engine removal is almost worth that much. Lol

Yes it is defiantly worth $2500. The car has hasn't been driven regularly for awhile but since it's been sitting it's been if the Southwest. That means it hasn't been rusting away over the years. You don't have to worry about rusty brake lines or mold and mildew. Yeah some soft parts may need replacing but that's a lot cheaper than a bunch of rust repair.
