Nope, they make it look like the guy wanted a muscle car but couldn't afford one so he souped-up what he could get. They really make this fury look great don't they?
Or he just wanted wheels and tires that actually looked good.Nope, they make it look like the guy wanted a muscle car but couldn't afford one so he souped-up what he could get.
I love these types of cars more than muscle cars, too; so then why try to make it look muslce car-y by putting on this type of wheel? And these wheels are way over-used, on every type of car; losing the uniqueness of the factory wheels for generic-looking mags, especially on a low-mileage "survivor", is anathema to me.Or he just wanted wheels and tires that actually looked good.
Some people prefer these full size cars over the boring muscle cars. I know I do.
LOL that's definitely true; mags with a decent profile tire any day over dubs and rubber bands!Cant be any worse then 24" wheels on one.
I never thought of a mag wheel as a muscle car only wheel. Sometimes you gotta sporty it up. Or even spiff it up. The hub cap options are mediocre at best. Road wheels aren't that easy to locate in good shape and 75% of all C bodies now have them . If you do find a nice set now according to your guidelines I gotta find white stripe or black wall tires in a skinny size.I love these types of cars more than muscle cars, too; so then why try to make it look muslce car-y by putting on this type of wheel? Also, I suspect he added the mags and exhaust so it would appeal more to the "every old car with a V8 must be a muscle car" crowd, who are all too common at cruise nights and whatnot.
Good point, and I suspect that's why wheels are one of the first things people change, 'cause it's easy. As long as he kept the original parts...but it is only 20 nuts.
Yup, different strokes for different folks... It just seems that so many folks aren't different anymore, and they are all putting the same basic mag on every car under the sun, which I think ruins the uniqueness that is the old car hobby. But anyway, everyone knows where I sit on this, so I'll get off my soapbox now... until the next nice, original car comes along with new mags, and then I'll rant againYou cats know where I am at.
NO way this is a HOT ROD, and i dont remotely drive it like one. I just like this wheel. IF i had any Torq Thrust D's laying around, I'da been spinning those.
Like most of you, we like what we like, and are "OK" if people think differently. Although, I had a fella mad as hornet at me for NOT rocking the road wheels. Wasn't a "fight", but he had a strong feeling lets just say.
He calmed down a bit when I showed him pics that I indeed do that for 1/2 the driving season. We started out as strangers and now I see him at local cars shows all the time.
I always liked the Keystone style much better than the Cragar S/S or Torque Thrust style. Good taste!Back when I had my A12 Roadrunner, I used to get some crap from a few guys about running Keystone wheels on the car rather than the "H" black wheels with chrome lug nuts. I finally told one that there were two reasons. Number one being the car would look like crap with black wheels and number two was that it was my f'ing car and I could run whatever wheels I LIKE. He never bothered me again about it and the other guys seemed to not bring it up anymore.
I could justify it as a "Day 2" type mod and it was just a matter of switching to the stock look, but the reason I ran them is the car looked good to ME.
I don't own the car anymore, but it still has Keystone wheels on it!
Around here, almost all the Chevy guys ran the S/S wheels and a lot of the Mopar guys ran Keystones or others just because they weren't S/S wheels. LOL!I always liked the Keystone style much better than the Cragar S/S or Torque Thrust style. Good taste!
Those mags look pretty good on there, but I have to applaud the move to the wheel coversI have chrome mags on my 69 Monaco but not as crazy about them as I was. I do love road wheels but they are pretty common even though I do have a set I could use. Instead I bought a set of these wheel covers I'm going to use. Just have to buy some tires.
I think being that it's a 4 door makes the wheel covers a better choice. Mags on a 4 door to me looks like you're trying to make it in to something it's not. Those mags look pretty good on there, but I have to applaud the move to the wheel covers.
My thoughts exactly.I think being that it's a 4 door makes the wheel covers a better choice. Mags on a 4 door to me looks like you're trying to make it in to something it's not.
I almost agree with you, coupes vs. sedans and aftermarket wheels, however I like the custom wheel /RWL choice on your '69 too. The wheels covers are gonna look great tho .. i say that MORE because I like that particular factory cover.I think being that it's a 4 door makes the wheel covers a better choice. Mags on a 4 door to me looks like you're trying to make it in to something it's not.
I found a set of those at a wrecking yard in okla years back and put them on a 79 dodge magnum, thought they looked good.I have chrome mags on my 69 Monaco but not as crazy about them as I was. I do love road wheels but they are pretty common even though I do have a set I could use. Instead I bought a set of these wheel covers I'm going to use. Just have to buy some tires.
