I think you're right when you say it's a mix of UV, age and heat. I noticed ll of the speedo needles are pretty badly faded, so maybe UV has less to do with it based on the varied yellowing of the numbers. I've seen many Formal speedos (most the lowly 100 or 120 mph varieties) and some look brown while otheres look absolutely new-there seems to be no rhyme or reason to it.

well here's the next one up for sale..dunno why I am keeping this one. NEVER had a car for it..collected the hard to find parts but never found a car I could save.

1967 Polara/Monaco "Certified" Police Speedometer..NOS, clock-delete panel intact, checked out good for mechanicals (needs gas guage tho) and electronics six years ago. haven't thought about the price yet..thoughts from you fine folks?

could even be quality variations part to part? the '74 example Monaco75 posted is white on the periphery..upper middle and needle showing discoloration. yet another variation of the "phenomenon". If someone who knows notices this thread i'm sure he/she will enlighten us

Last one. 1968 "Certified" police speedometer from a Fury I. Couldnt save the car so I kept the impossible to find stuff.

Dont know condition of this part, but my intention is to "send it out" for refurbishment, then find it a new home..if I get at least the refurbishment cost for it.

if not, i will keep as a spare for my "68 VSP Fury I unmarked 440-HP coupe (pics will be on here by Halloween..came out nice),

anyone who knows a good place to go through speedos, please post something for me and others to check into. thx in advance for any referrals.

I wish Ross had waited for these guages instead of the ones he put in.
But.......
Its his car.

stan, not sure of the situation you refer to..I'm sure Ross did (as you or I would I guess) whatever he did with his eyes open. :)

Unless it was a police car he was doing, not sure an otherwise original, unmodified civilian car benefits that much from a specialized piece like this..except the bezel in this case which is really, really nice.
