It's likely the 215 will be ok, however A) looking at the specs on the automobile-catalog.com website reveals the standard size was hr78-15 which B) a post on the pirate 4x4 web forum reveals to be h- highway r-radial 78-width and 15 - 15" rim/wheel.

They suggest the p-metric equivalent is a 225 75 15. The main considerations are that it's a very heavy car (basically the 1969-73imperial) so probably the largest tire that fits is best, and as Stan pointed out you need to get the speedometer corrected for the tire you choose.

No one is having a go, just wishing you to have the best driving experience you can based upon what they have with their cars.

We wish you well with yours.

Thanks for the advise. I can the 225's for same price as the 215's. So I might go that route.

For future considerations, P235/75R15XL would be an ideal tire for a car of this size... but may limit your choices for WW... looks like Hancock still has them...

In my experience the slightly stronger tire will firm up road feel just a tad without hurting ride quality.

Just out of curiosity, I went and looked at the spare tire in my trunk. Although not original, it has been with the car for over 20 years: P235/75R15.

It needs air. :p

It needs to be replaced....

I had to use my spare twice in the last couple years. Need a safe spare. One never knows when it has to be used.

All of my caps have been through the X ray machine and passed. All my drives are '12/'13. They will cap to 10 years and stand behind it after 10 no guarantee but if it passes they will cap it.
Scales pfft who goes near scales?

So they are black, round, hold air, they are good.

Why can't everyone else care like you do.
WTF is going on out there?

Tire failures are from under inflation and punctures that allow water and oxygen into the wires or cords causing them to rust or deteriorate then the casing fails. Under inflation causes too much heat which melts the inner lamination allowing it to separate and then fail. I have never had a tire fail that was cool enough to touch with bare hand, even on a cool day.

me thinks lots of your brother truckers ( no offense intended I'm sure you don't agree with that term LOL ) don't follow this credo based on all the shredded tries I see on the highways and byways

Oh I have put a few on the road, mostly container tires which should be illegal for too many reasons to list here. You can't just say that age will make a tire fail. I have had a 3 year old virgin steer tire fail, it was not old, it was not worn out, it was not under inflated, or overloaded, it had never been patched so it either had a defect or a water and,or air intrusion to the steel wires ( no nylon or polyester cords in truck radials) corroding them (rusting it out). I know it scared to crap out of me and thank God for a big VFW parking lot and no ditch kept the shiny side up.

Hi guys! I finally got this blue whale back home....I had her transported. Plugged radiator (I believe). And a few other issues, nothing serious. If I can ever figure out how to download photos, I'll post them. Got a ton of extra parts also.....but no steering wheels. Later.

Pics, Robert... we need pictures...

And congrats...

Tires do fail from being old. Quite a few times I've had old steel belted radials blow the tread off them just sitting in my yard on a hot day in the dessert. I hear a bang and go to investigate and find a tire with the tread hanging off. It doesn't happen with old bias ply's though.

Well, if you inflate them when it's only 80 out and then you get a day when it hits 119....
