Hi,

My wife's 2010 Avenger R/T 3.5L has recently started making a noise in the dash when I apply the breaks while the engine is running and the car is in Park. It doesn't happen in any other gear or when not running. It sounds like something is hitting the back side of the radio/hvac controls. This just started when I got the car out of storage this spring. It is her winter car and is driven very little if any in the summer. I can't find any info on this issue so I'm hoping someone here will have an idea.

I'm concerned that my heater core may also be going bad because when I first start it, I can hear fluid bubbling/draining/filling when I first start the car.

Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Basic info only here... you likely have a vacuum leak, or failed check valve. Nothing else connects the brakes to the HVAC. Some vehicles had a vacuum check valve, that when failed, would put the HVAC into defrost under WOT/ low vacuum conditions. Check your FSM for whatever is vacuum operated in your HVAC.

The bubbling sounds wouldn't so much indicate a heater core, the give away is usually steam/smell form thew defroster vents. This may be related to the other issue if you have a vacuum operated water control valve on the heater hose. I would say to start by monitoring coolant levels closely, if you have a leak that may explain it.

I agree with Jeff about the heater core. Usually any time I have gotten a gurgle noise, the system has been low on coolant. Very common on GM trucks, system gets a little low and funny gurgle/bubbling sounds. Hows the heater output? I have seen a few of those cars with the heater cores partially plugged and require flushing them out.

if you have to push the brake to shift from park, i would guess that there is some type of mechanical lockout in there that could be making noise.
