I need a source for an origional 4x10 speaker or a shop that can restore one. Later types or after market will not fit the dash.

Found a shop in Lafayette IN that will restore my speaker. I tried an after market speaker. The magnet interferes with instrument cluster.
 
You can find "speaker cones" online and there is a YouTube video on how to replace them, too.

You might Google "speaker re-cone" and see if a shop comes up near you. After seeing the YT vid on that replacement, it seems to be easier than suspected. The MAIN issue can be getting the flange on the back of the paper cone centered around the magnet itself so it does not "drag".

IF there are several night clubs in your area which feature a live DJ to spin the records, there probably is a re-coner shop in the same area.

Most of the current aftermarket speakers DO have magnets which are much too big for where they need to go in older vehicles. They are designed to handle waayy more power than the older radios could produce, so they have bigger magnets.

I have personally used that shop on some of my jukebox speakers. They do a great job and quick turnaround.
 
FWIW, here are some thought from other folks on how to address that speaker.

I don't know how the factory deals with a 4x10 if it also has 2 - 3.5" speakers at the corners of the windshield.
They weren't doing center-channel separation back then. :p

If it helps, I can CNC you a plate out of ABS that could fit 2 smaller speakers, or maybe a single 4x6. (although one of those said he fits a pair of 4x6 in there)
A modern 4x6 will outperform any vintage 4x10.
Anything with a neodimium magnet - that magnet will be a LOT smaller.

It all depends on whether one wants to be able to say 'the radio works' or whether they want to have something 1/2-way worth listening to.

1968 was the first year for a C/D-body stereo/multiplex AM/FM radio. The 1968 Imperial order guide states that the Imperial used 5 speakers. Two in the rear package tray behind the rear seat, one in each lower front corner of the front doors, and 1 in the instrument panel (center). The normal Chryslers had speakers, 1 in the center, two were surface-mounted in the front corners of the upper instrument panel piece, with two in the rear package tray behind the rear seat. 5 speakers total, which was continued until the 1974 model year. In 1974, normal 4 speakers.

As I recall, other 1968 non-Chrysler C-bodies could have AM/Stereo 8-track tape radios which only came with three front speakers, with the 2 rear speakers being optional.

Im going back with the origional radio and speaker setup. The new yorker has 5 apeakers : 2 6x9s in the back, 2 3.5s in the front corners, and 1 4x10 in the center. Found replacement speakers for 4 of the 5. The 4x10 i thought would work was too big and as such the instrument cluster would not fit. Installed the origional radio wire harness which attaches all the speakers and the fader switch and crossover.

So what channel is the center speaker in the 3-speaker dash setup, then? Is it a left or right, or does it get a summed L+R?
 
The center channel is a combination of L and R, via the Clectron divider box. Just like the Sony tabletop radios of the earlier 1970s, with three speakers. "Matrix Stereo". AND the 1995 LH car's Inifinity-brand stereos. The center speaker can better do the lower frequencies as it is bigger than the front outboard speakers. A better sonic experience that GM and Ford could not do.
