62 Newport Front Grill cleaning

Looking for some suggestions to clean up my Front Grill. I took some 0000 Steel wool to the chrome and having some struggles with the "slates". Is it worth painting? What have you used?

Any insight is appreciated.

If it's chrome, I think it will look wrong painted.
You could replate it.
I used to use Hanlon Plating in Richmond, but looks like they're shutting down.
