Recently installed 235/75/15 tires on my 72 Fury and had to unbolt shocks to drop axle down enough to fit wheel/tire. Lots of room in wheel well once installed. Removing previous 225/75/15 was tight too. Assuming this is not normal. What is correct compressed / extended length of the 72 Fury rear shocks? Compressed / extended 14" X 22.6" to 15.25" X 25" range is what Rock Auto shows. Mine has Bilstein and I forgot to measure when changing rubber.

Your issue with quarter panel lip clearance is not unusual. It took a bit of holding my mouth right to get the P245/70R-14 Advantage TAs into the rear wheel wells of my '67 Newport when I installed them. IF it had had the 11x3 rear brakes, no deal. The car has "load leveler" Monroe rear shocks on it when I did that.

There are two lengths of rear shocks. Seems like the shorter ones fit wagons? I looked at this years ago, wondering "WHY?". Same chassis, same springs, same rear axle, etc. In other words, AND BOTH go into the same place, so why not standardize them to the longer ones? AND, seems like the shorter ones also go on B-body cars! AND, the length difference is MINIMAL, like .5" at the most. I discovered these things in an old paper Monroe Shocks book in the 1980s, in the back of the catalog in the "Specs" section. Not sure what the current online Monroe catalog shows.

Just some experiences and observations,

I had a problem similar to this when putting 275's under the rear of mine. I used KYB KG5413 shocks for Dodge trucks. Extended is 24.45 and I have no problems removing the wheels now and it still rides nicely.

FWIW, the rear shocks do appear to also fit a good swath of 1970s Dodge pickups and vans. According to Monroe and Gabriel catalogs.
