As much as we get excited to hear a engine run. Take the time to remove the spark plugs and squirt some marvel mystery oil into the combustion chambers and dry fire the engine , you will reduce the chance of breaking a piston ring(s) plus it will let you know if you have a seized motor. I was lucky and found a running donor car with a clean gas tank and fuel line. I replaced the fuel filter with a see through filter , just in case there was still some rust.
Once it was running I let i idle (don't rev the engine) .
