Aging musicians still with us

Three groups I didn't see and now am disappointed I never did, 1 Rare Earth ,2, Blood Sweat and Tears, 3,The Guess Who / BTO. Though the driving force behind those groups are still around I wouldn't want to see them at this stage.
Like the hot chick from long ago, better left as legendary status.

I really liked Cat Stevens music in the early, early 70's. I had numerous 8 tracks of his in my Super Bee and Challenger.....

Then....something happened to him in the late 70's. He also converted to Islam (who cares) and lived in a commune IIRC. He lost all his money...ended up on the "Do Not Fly List" and I believe he was extorted or scammed or something. All of that was so long ago.

I never even tried to keep up with the stories and propaganda... I like his old stuff, I don't believe I have heard any of the new. AFAIAC he may have a noble cause or not... I don't particularly look to entertainers for political or spiritual guidance... If I find a meaning to their work that is different from their own... I chose mine.

New name, new religion, new agenda... I don't want to be involved... won't stop me from enjoying his songs I know.

I always thought it was cool when senior citizens could rock a set on stage... I worked for a mobile DJ in the 80's as a nice part time gig... one of the most memorable nights was a late 30's high school class reunion(50th)... most of those old fellas were WWII vets and the night was all big band and lots of swing music. When those old guys hit the floor... Wow. Years later watching the best of CW dance crowds in action they still couldn't hold a candle to those guys that night.

BTW, for those wondering... The guy I worked for was a Tech by trade.

How true Can'tFlip - the most beautiful and respectful dancing, to a great style of music. I love all kinds of music when it's good (Paraphrasing Duke Ellington - there's good and there's ****, it doesn't matter what style it is), and I've had the pleasure you describe many times watching the real deal dancing as I conducted the orchestra. Those guys (and ladies) walked the walk in so many ways, (read WW2 etc).

However, please don't read into the above that I am minimizing or dismissing the debt of gratitude and respect I have for all people who've lived full lives and made a contribution to the world we share - every time I see a vet of any description from any time period, I thank them.

I saw an incarnation of Rare Earth at least once, maybe twice ??, in the 80's. Imho...underrated band. Saw BTO with Styx and Trooper (one for our Canada friends) in Jan 1976 pretty much at their peak. Randy and Fred are still out there. I missed them a couple of years ago when they were touring.

I saw the Chicago-EWF tour in Nov. If you like horn bands, that was a great show.

I'm sorry I didn't see Alice Cooper or Kiss at their peak.

He seems like a Very peaceful Man when i watch a interview with him. His Beliefs whether i agree with them or not dont concern me really. He wrote some beautiful songs and wrote from the heart.
