All I can say is WOW!

But the whole thing is rather sad, isn't it?

There's something just not right with stuffing 150 (mostly collectible) cars into shitbox barns and letting them rot (mice condominiums!). And when this coot dies, his family has to deal with all that clutter. It just ain't right.

That's like a woman and her shoes. :BangHead:

Yeah, we've all seen this sort of "hoarder" behavior before concerning old cars. I recall some guy a few years ago in (I think) Pennsylvania who had a whole stash of Hemi cars in two old barns and a basement...all wasting away, basically. Refuses to sell ANYTHING. Nutjob.

This is the way to hoard cars!

Do what you like but ... I got a rule; if I don't use it or work on it for a year, it's gone.

That's a good rule. I do that with everything in my house and garage, except tools, of course.

Speaking of tools, how about the tools ol' Billy left laying on the engines...certainly much longer than one year ago. More like one decade ago. Maybe two decades. Three?

Nutjob.

Tools, for sure... They only go when they break.

I don’t know. Reminds me of the 80’s when I had 4or 5 70 `cudas in my backyard. I didn’t advertise but people always stopped by bothering me about them. It always went the same way “do you want to sell all these cars”??? Always “cars” like it would spill the beans if they said cuda. I’d say no but sure if the price is right everything is for sale. Then they’d get mad when I didn’t name a price on something that I wasn’t interested in selling.

That dude has his life wired tight. I’ll never be jealous of someone who found something cool. Good for him, even better for his inheritors.

Here's what I'd like to see that guy do.

1. Sell a couple of the cars that are worth big money.
2. Take that money, invest it into the construction a nice large building on the property.
3. Market it as a museum.
4. Use the generated revenue to pay for the upkeep.
I'm willing to wager that the only thing the owner is accomplishing, is ensuring the family will have a large auction shortly after his death. It doesn't appear that his kids/grandkids have much to do with the place.

Yeah, except that old man doesn't have the energy or the gumption to even CLEAN the cars, let alone sell, build, market, upkeep..... It's just a sad mess.

For that matter, has anyone been to the Garlits museum lately? I first went in 1989 and it was fantastic. Went a year ago and now it's as much a cluttered bunch of Americana "stuff" as it is bitchin' old racecars. I absolutely love Big Daddy, but....it’s a mess. The “curator” has gotten too old I’m sorry to say.

Amazing. Two generations of buying cars and tucking them away in old buildings in the woods. Imagine the loss if a fire ever went through that place.

The old guys probably don't care much about the money they could make by selling them nor do they have the energy/health as was noted above for doing new construction to maintain them to a better condition (and the cars actually don't look all that bad given what part of the country they are in and most all are at least housed inside). They probably just like reveling in the past when times were really good for them compared to the electronic existence we endure now and all the nasty attitudes these days like "my way or the highway", overall arrogance, and 'know it alls'.

I too like just having a lot of old vehicles around too, but my best ones are in nice big garages in a climate where rust isn't a problem and there are many cats around to take care of any mice - I don't think I have seen one in the last 5 years or evidence that one was around either.

And yeah, they will leave a problem for their inheritors, but one that they can probably endure when the $$ roll in.

I say good for them. They don't owe anybody anything and no one should tell them what to do with their stuff that they earned and worked hard on. Looks like lives that are content and well lived.

And if you are really pissed you can't buy one of them, I would advise just keep saving up your money and as the video notes, time is on your side. Relax and prepare.
