I think what we're seeing is the combination of Tonka Toys, Transformers (as mentioned). and the "Hot Wheels" generations of light-duty pickup truck designs. Throw in a little "industrial look" (on the HD2500s and up) for good measure.
I walked past a 2017 GMC 2500HD pickup in the shop on the way out this afternoon. It had a lift kit on it, with some knobby tires and aftermarket wheels. The top rail on the bed is right at 5 FEET 6 INCHES to the shop floor! As tall as I am. AND, like the PowerStrokes, in order to change the turbo, you have to separate the cab from the frame to get to it! Good designs?
