Went to the Arizona state fair today. The ferris wheel was enclosed AND air conditioned! This is just wrong in my opinion.

The last one I rode on as a kid, was made of steel, cast iron. and wood, and cost 50 cents, I think. After my Mom asked the operator if it was safe, she got this horrified look when he replied, 'Yes ma'm its been running everyday since 1895' as he put it in gear!
This would have been in the late 1960's.

Also a nice piece of hypocrisy, since I'm sure most of those who would refuse an old-timey open-air version are the first ones to complain about carbon feet prints and such. At least that's my observation of my peer group that has to run A/C the first time the temp exceeds 72 degrees, run the TV for their "fur babies" or order food delivery every damn night.

I'd bet it has more to do with insurance and the possibilities of people falling out than keeping cool , warm or dry.
It's been my observation that insurance companies rule the country and their henchmen (attorneys) are along for the ride.

I've been on identical Ferris wheel's in Myrtle Beach and Niagara Falls. all comfy and cozy for all riders.

This on the other hand would scare the crap out of you as it spins at about 100mph and hangs near the edge of a 6+ story City Museum in St. Louis!

That's me in the yellow shirt having to sit to try to keep the poo inside my body after riding on this ferris wheel from hell.

It was free to ride on & the Scottish blood in me said, "If it's free then it's for me!" uhhh what a mistake! LOL!!!

My lovely wife sitting in the driver's seat of the bus...

This part of the museum is definitely not for the feint of heart...
