I guess I am finished selling items to foreign countries. The shippers have been getting way too greedy over the years and now are pricing themselves out of business IMO. I have lost a dozen sales due to shipping being the deal breaker. My last deal breaker was a used $55.00 Air cleaner with a new filter. USPS quoted me $159.90 for a 9 pound box 23" X 16" X 6". I thought that was outrages so I went to FEDEX. They quoted me $592.15 for the same box. Not sure what a one way passenger ticket to Australia is these days but I guess I won't be interested in finding out.

Shipping stuff to/from Europe is crazy expensive too. Fuel can’t be the explanation— while it is slightly more expensive today than right before COVID (see graph below), jet fuel is actually more substantially less costly today than it was in 2011-2014 (see here).

Wow. Were you shipping to Australia?
That was the plan until I gave him the shipping quote. I have purchased a few items in the past year that came from China and were either free shipping or minimal fees. The shippers cater to big business and want us to make up the difference.

I dunno. I just bought an air cleaner off Amazon in Germany. Been obsolete for about 5 years. I was thrilled to find it and would have gladly overpaid for shipping. I thought shipping was very fair. Box overall that it came in was bigger than yours. I think the shipping with the tariff was around $65 or $75. Total price was around $160 delivered. In 2005 I paid $114 for the same filter from Summit so delivered price was very fair.

Did you try DHL?

I am just guessing, but it could be one of Trumps policies. Shipping companies are offsetting duty costs and including into their shipping. Other countries have setup counter tariffs to the ones the US has imposed on countries. The stick has two ends...

It's the same if you try shipping from Poland to the US nowadays, the price has sky rocketed.

We have the same here. With the tariffs in place, and the elimination of the low value parcel exemption to the US, we now have to prepay all fees prior to shipment.
