Graham......

I would like to give you a big shout out and a thank you for helping me find the NOS idler arm for my 78 NYB. You found the only NOS (Mopar dealer) one available in North America. I think a few places like Brad's NOS Mopar may have one.... Finally had a day off today (and Carlisle is a little more than a week from now) and installed it today. That NOS idler arm really tightened up my steering! The NOS idler arm fits like a glove!!! The MOOG problem solver idler arm doesn't fit properly without finding a thinner washer and I'll keep it as a backup (hopefully I'll never need it with the remaining time I have on the planet).

THANK YOU GRAHAM!

big shout out to Graham as well for finding me someone that could install my door handles last week...last dealership l went to was told they couldnt figure it out and sent me packin with a bill.....shout out for Stampede collision in Calgary as well...great shop great service

Thanks guys I appreciate your kind words! I find it really interesting how these old parts are still sitting on dealer shelves and continue to be inventoried year after year. If I can help anyone with parts lookup I am always available. Glad it worked out Bob! Critter good people like the guys atStampede Collision make my life a lot easier and I'm glad they helped you out. Sometimes it's not WHAT you know but WHO you know!

It amazes me and I'm very happy this inventory is still sitting on shelves.

Does your lookup automatically show superseded part numbers or do you have to search for the superseded part numbers?

If there are supercedes they will show. Most of the stuff I look up comes up as obselete but still is sitting on a shelf somewhere.
Hopefully you Chrysler dealers are better organised than my Ford dealer's parts department. Whatever they say they have they don't and what they claim not to have they do, vexes the service department quite a bit.
Dealer is great but parts are &^%$.
Am moving to Christchurch NZ next year and hope the new dealer is better organised in their parts dept.

It's like Doba said it is who you know, the Chrysler dealer I use is also a Ford dealer and my parts guy can find me some obsolete parts. I think it all depends on how hard they want to please the customer and taking pride in their job to do their best.

My local Dodge dealer parts dept guys are total losers. I use to call them all the time (with no results) and one time they forgot to put me on hold while they allegedly was looking for a part for me. I heard the A-hole telling another person "I wish this guy with the 78 would quit calling me for parts" and then they were both laughing. I told the A-hole that he forgot to put me on hold and I heard everything. He said let me try finding that part again and I hung up on him and I have never called them again.

30+ years ago, I had a half dozen parts guys in 4 different Mopar dealers that could take care of me. They've all either retired, moved on to other things, or unfortunately passed on. My last experiences in the parts department have been terrible.... A few years ago, I went in one Jeep/CP dealership for a part for the Jeep Grand Wagoneer I had. Something for the rear gate/window lock if IIRC. The parts guy didn't/wouldn't understand until I actually said "do you want me to draw you stick figures of someone trying to open the rear gate with a key so you understand?" The guy in the back of the shop started laughing at him and embarrassed him enough to help me.... Of course all he gave me was a list of dealerships with the part. He had no interest in getting the part.

The parts departments aren't concerned with selling parts to the general public anymore. They just want to take care of their internal service sales and that's it.

I've gotten to the point of looking up the numbers myself and doing searches on the intrawebs. The superceded parts numbers don't help though.

Thank God we got Graham to help us.

You and I together would be dangerous when dealing with incompetents.

OMG the next generation has no idea about anything unless they can youtube it. My 20 somethings have to be educated when they start as to where the dipstick is and how to put washer fluid in. The future is not so bright I'm afraid. That said there are some bright spots out there - i have a 19 year old apprentice who owns 5 classics - 47 Willys not the least of them. He does all the work on my stuff if I don't have the time.

I needed a by pass hose for the Admiral yesterday and the girl at the computer asked me "Who made Plymouths".....?
Years ago, I drove into a Ford truck plant with a Mercury station wagon. The guard said that only Ford products could drive in the plant itself. She had to check with her boss to make sure Mercury was made by Ford.
