I am working with my cousin to get the family farm registered as a sesquicentennial family farm.
Our great great grandfather, Carl Carlson bought the land in 1872 and my mom was born on the place.
My cousin lives there now. My uncle, grandfather and great grandfather all lived there.
Another uncle owns the pasture across the road from the home place and my mom’s cousin lives on the timber section that my great great grandfather also purchased about 3 miles away as the crow flies.
If we get it submitted and it’s approved, it will be recognized by the South Dakota Department of Agriculture and Natural Resources (DANR) and the South Dakota Farm Bureau (SDFB) at the state fair in Huron, SD this September.

I think this is awesome.
Anyone else done something like this?

That is awesome to have that kind of family history!
Hold onto that with everything your family has!!

Lots of history on 3/4 of my family.
We had a reunion last July for my dad’s mother’s side and I have a lot of documents on my mom’s side.

I'm a sucker for old barns.
Do you have any pictures of the farm, maybe then and now, you'd like to share?

Both my wife's family farm and my family farm are listed under Ohio Century Farm. My cousin still runs our farm and I am a 1/4 owner.

I can snap a pic of the place tomorrow.
I live 2 miles away.
Barn and silos are gone.
My cousin burned the barn down by accident several years ago when he was burning weeds.
The place is still on well water.

My aunt put together a great genealogy book. These aren't the best pictures but it is my grandfather's last team of horses and some of his first tractors and farm equipment.

Here’s a few pictures.
Carl and Christina Carlson, who homesteaded it. Carl was in the Navy (Swedish as Norway was under Swedish rule at the time) before coming to the US.

Here is the 2 story log home my grandfather grew up in, that sadly burn down 3 days before Christmas in 1936. They were boiling turkeys on the wood burning stove. They were going to sell them door to door, in a nearby town, for their Christmas dinners.

The fire started while they were doing evening chores and had left the kitchen unattended for a short period of time.
