Tried the online decoding quips and indicates a Chrysler 300 Manual 4 speed. Would like second/expert opinion. Thanks.

5 is for an automatic transmission. If it were a 4 speed, there would be a 3 after the 81.

I wonder what the “A” at the beginning of the shipping order number means?

For 1968, that indicates the car was built for sale in Canada.

Built for sale in Canada VON designations.

68 = A
69 = B
70 = C
71 and beyond. Coding changes for most plants to include U-C-I designation. Jefferson (Chryslers/Imperials) did not use U-C-I so we have to look for the B or C VON to indicate built for sale in Canada depending on the year.

I’m purchased two 300 parts cars. One in Alberta, Canada, the other from Kansas. I must have taken the tag off the Alberta car as the one first one I bought (in Manitoba, Canada, so three now), didn’t have a tag on it which is a convertible so this tag won’t help me either. All very interesting and thank you.
