dual quad? 3x2? 361/383/400? 413/426/440? intake questions

O wise and venerable people -

what the hell is the deal with intake manifolds?

can i make a blanket statement about them like:

any intake that fits a 361 will fit a 383 will fit a 400?
any intake that fits a 413 will fit a 426 will fit a 440?

is that true? does not matter if its a 2bbl, 4bbl, 2x4bbl, or 6bbl - as long as the engine series is right (361/383/400 -or- 413/426/440)? is the difference that this a "B" vs. an "RB" engine?

can i get some intake off a 70s 400 and bolt it onto a 60s 383 ?
and vice - versa and all that?

holy smokes...i think ive confused myself.

please explain it to me like im 5.

In most cases anyway, "B" Intakes will fit "B" engines and "RB" Intakes will fit "RB" engines. If there's an exception, and there may be, I'm not aware of one.

One exception... and I doubt if you are going to run into this... In 1959 there was a 383 raised block.

350, 361, 383, 400. ALL intakes interchange.

RB engines:
59/60 (only) 383, 413, 426 Wedge, 440. ALL intakes interchange.

Even Pre-K can understand that. ☺

If I may add a slight exception perhaps, RB Max Wedge won't directly interchange because of the port miss match.

If you use MP Stage 6 heads, you use a B block intake on both blocks, the RB block uses spacers part # P5249189. They work in other applications as well.

The 361 , 383 and 400 have a shorter deck height than the 413 ,426 and 440. Although some of the parts between B and B R/B engines are interchangeable, they are still two different blocks with different dimensions.
