Exhaust heat shield color?

1970 Plymouth Sport Fury...RB engine, what color should the "heat shield" be on the drivers side of the engine?
Black, Grey???

Since all the heat shields bolt on with either head bolts or exhaust manifold bolts they would have been painted with the engine.

The spark plug heat shields were usually installed prior to painting the engine and would be engine color as noted. If you were talking about the heat stove for the preheat tube, that was installed after the engine was painted and was either not painted or painted matte black. Paint usually was burned off the heat stove once the car went into service.
