Heater control?

Our 70 Polara has the factory air con fitted. Question is,can someone please tell me how to get warm air,it's either cooking or freezing,so many buttons to push.from the left they are,temp,off,max a/c,AC,heat,Def,fan. Fan runs when max a/c is pushed in. As a guess it's all electric with no push/pull cables for anything.we have the operators manual but it's as clear as mud.

Surprised they are still available, rheostat and temp valve? Had a quick look at the back of the switches and put it backthink it'll be a job for later
