Hi All
I bought a 66 Newport 4 door, fantastic car in ratrod patina.
It is fitted with a 383 that has a Bendix Stromberg WWC 3-255 carb on it. The carb is shot and missing parts.
Since i live in The Netherlands it is hard to find parts.
I can find a Stromberg WWC 3-262 carb.

Can i put that one on my 383 to replace the wwc 3-255?
Or do i need to adjust things?
Can anyone tell me the difference between the 255 and 262 ? In the pics they look the same to me.

Application is as follows WWC3-262 fits 60-64 318 and 361 engines
WWC-255 fits '65-76 383/400 engines.

The only thing I see missing from your carb is the fast idle linkage, you should be able to source one of those and the appropriate carb kit from Mike's Carb or another quality supplier. I personally would stay with the existing carb as it should be properly jetted for your application. It looks like there is fuel leaking out of the carb due to a bad needle and seat or a bad float, both problems are easily fixed. The spring attached to the kick down linkage may have the wrong bracket, it should not chafe against the linkage. You should also replace the vacuum hose to the brake booster as it is swelled at the attachment point and close to failure.

Just verified in a '66 Chrysler Service Manual (and '66 Chrysler Parts Book) I had downloaded from www.mymopar.com, PLUS from my memory of my earlier days when our '66 Newport Town Sedan was a common "used car" . . . Stromberg WWC3-262 was OEM on that car. 383 2bbl with TorqueFlite. And that's what our '66 came with from the factory.

Worked great, just do NOT torque the air cleaner nut past "snug"!!!! Those downloads are free at www.mymopar.com.

Enjoy!

According to the '65 Chrysler Parts Book, '65 Belvedere/Coronet 361 2bbl Stromberg WWC3-255 automatic trans. WWC3-262 also does the '65 model year 361 and 383 2bbl in C-body cars, too.

You can rebuild and run the WWC3 262 JUST FINE on that '66 383 bro. I had one on my 383 and ran it with good results until this past August. It started leaking, causing a nasty little fire when it backfired, so after a few more weeks, I made the huge mistake of downgrading to a Carter BBD. I had a pair of them, both reasonably straight, rebuilt cleanly, but I learned very quickly why so many Moparians complain about BBDs,and will never use them again, even after getting one of the pair to work reasonably well....

The Bendix/Stromberg WWC3 is a better designed 2 barrel carb. Be GLAD you have that 262 AND the 255. They're VERY similar, if not identical, and parts from one will serve on the other to a high degree.

Being more than 50 yrs old, you inevitably will have to twiddle things a little bit, as no 2 hemicentinnial carbs are ever identical, but with the FSM, you shouldn't have too much trouble.

I finally installed a stock iron 4 barrel intake and an Edelbrock 1405 as a modern version of the Carter AVS, and now have it working VERY nicely with the very same 383 we ran in our '66 Newport for 5.5 years, and now another in our 68 convertible.

You got the BEST of Old Mopar's 2 barrel carbs bro. Rejoice!

The 383 we got in our '66 actually was installed in the assembled car in November of 1965. It had a 262. I have a couple more WWCs made from '61-65. I might reuse one of them someday, the Lord willing. IDKWTF I'm gonna do w those BBDs. Maybe Craigslist them....
