Ok the paint I can buff & save except the trunk lid. It will need repainting as will the panel between the back window & trunk. Also there is a lot of what looks to be tar splattered on the back of the car. I’ll look into removing that.

Found some time slips in the glove box from Fayetteville (Ft Bragg area) Motorsports Park. 1/4 mile time. This track is 1/8th mile now. Looks like the big girl ran pretty good. 12.19 @ 113 MPH
So if I'm reading correctly, the big decision is which car to keep?
The Charger would be an easier flip, as a streetable car, and you'd be $$$ ahead continuing with Furyious as a toy. I know that kind of logic doesn't weigh in on many of my decisions either.
Judging by the pictures, the Charger is right at that point where every seem appears to be ready to show some serious rust. IDK if you have enough left, but would say this is the last chance to get her done with Ospho and prayer that Gary can fill the pinholes with wire before the damage is too big and patches are required.
I hope she doesn't break your heart, or wallet.

I am a very casual follower and cantflip has a lot more to offer (don't you love this place?). I would take his advice on the rust.
But I still think this is a sweet roller and of course you HAD to buy it!

If I were in your shoes and I think you've made up your mind...just get it running and move it on to somebody who dreams of a B-body like this.
Drop in a 440? OK...whatever.... If you want to race it yes.
For the street, many came with a nice 400 4bbl/dual exhaust combo. Even a good used 340 or 360 would do it some justice. ("No" on the 318, IMHO.)

"Total sales this year were around 108,000 units, the highest ever for the 1971-74 Charger generation, though more than 60 percent of the cars had the non-high performance engines. "
Yea, I know probably seems like waste of a good race chassis, but I think you would score more $ selling to somebody who "dreams" of racing rather than actually does it.
Spend the money on getting it nice and cozy inside. It's already in good shape, as you said.
The purple paint? Yeah.....not everybody's cup of tea, but fits this era just right IMHO.
