Since this is one of the often used rationales for not getting a car, I wanted to get a feeling what everyone thinks is the farthest they would go to get a car, and why. Maybe not "the" car, but one high on the list. I would probably go anywhere I could drive to in Canada/US. You guys overseas can vote too, but we know you would go to the ends of the earth. It doesn't seem that way here, though.

you wrote it pretty much correct, I would buy a car everywhere in the world.
But "just" a nice car which is not the ultimate car would hardly be bought buy me from Japan. Shipping is very expensive (as they are an export nation)

Probably a day's driving distance assuming I could find someone to go with me. That way I could look at it and leave it if I had to.

It all depends on how much I'm paying for the car and what it will cost me to get it home.

When I got my first Polara I flew to Montana and drove the car 1300 miles home.
$2000 for the car and another $500 in air gas room and food.
So that is a $2500 car, it was a two day canonball run so I can't realy factor in the entertainment value.

With my truck I rented a car and with a co driver drove 700 miles to Oregon, got the truck and drove the 700 miles home, 24 hour round trip no room.
$1000 for the truck, $500 in rental, gas for both vehicles and food.
A $1500 truck

To me it doesn't matter where the vehicle is but what is the end game.

I bought one car in Florida, one car in Connecticut, two cars in Pennsylvania. I've bought them all over New York State too.

Hell... I drove to North Carolina to get a dog...

I'd say anywhere that's within a days drive. Unless it is "THE" car. All except 2 cars I've bought have been a state away.

On my bucket list to fly somewhere buy a car and drive over a thousand mile back.

Me too that would be so cool .. an adventure

I've hauled cars 800 and a 1,000 miles several times in my younger days on a trailer but would love to fly and drive with vacation time to enjoy the journey even more

I voted "Anywhere in North America" but really mean anywhere in the continental US .. maybe Southern Canada but I don't know about taking a vehicle across the border and what import taxes may be incurred or I might be willing to do that one.

Obviously I went to Missouri and back to get a car, 2100 miles round trip. After doing that I think I wouldnt have trouble going across the country BUT its gotta be "THE CAR"

I flew to Tampa and drove the 73 Imperial home. In hindsight, that was absolutely crazy but man was it fun.

We already know some of the most solid cars with decent interiors are in the pacific northwest. I got lucky that CLover had already brought my Imp to Michigan, next time I might not be so lucky.

Well seeing my 69 Sport Fury Vert I bought got a year ago November in Detroit I would have to say that I would go wherever I had to as to get the car that I really wanted. :wtg:

And I would do it again if another one came along. :plane:

In fact I just let one go in Cleveland Ohio that I came close to buying.

Iz anywhere too far for the right set of wheelz? In the mid '80s I flew to SoCal to buy the Batwagon and it hadn't run in 13 yearz. Ah couple yearz after that I flew to Phoenix to buy a '68 formula S 383 4 spd fastback and that one didn't happen. The SOB had misrepresented the car so badly I refused to buy it and I'd planed on Bonzaing it back to Michigan in about 30 hourz too! ...............and he refused to take me the 50 miles back to the airport and I sat on his front porch in August for almost two hourz waiting for a cab to take me back! I did manage to make sure that turkey never advertised in Hemmingz again tho', but what ah fiasco that waz. My little rust free Plymouth Scamp Pickup came out of Helena, Mt. 10 yearz ago too but I had Car-Budz out there that took care of that one for me and I just waited for it to show up at the Ponderosa. Every chase iz an adventure be it good or bad and like good wine it'z worth it, Jer

I've driven to ND for a car, SD for a trailer, and at least 15 other states for various vehicles. The farthest I've been for a car or truck is probably Florida, California, or Ohio.

That hearse from the Netherlands traveled even further with you. :)

I bought my 64 D200 crewcab sight unseen from Cedar City Utah. flew to Vegas, bussed to Cedar City and drove it 2200 miles home to North Carolina. Had to buy a battery in Colorado.

Tomorrow I'm flying to Providence RI to pick up and drive home my 69 Custom Suburban. I'm planning a stop in North Carolina to look at a 57 Nash Rambler cross country wagon survivor and may have to go back to get that over the holidays. It likely will be a "fix up and flip" project.

I just love doing this stuff and have never really been left stranded anywhere
.

Make sure to have your camera at Hand for us. I love Ramblers btw. too but no room to take it off your Hands unfortunately.

Distance is moot if you have the money to spend. Like said before if it was "THE" car. I am looking at one in New Mexico but not for $9500. So it is easy to talk myself out of it.

All the vehicles in my current stable have come from many miles, and states away. I would not hesitate to fly in and drive home any vehicle within North and even South America. It's the journey that is important I think, and baring a major drive line failure, all issues can be fixed along the way.
