New to me 78 NYB on its way but please Don't tell my wife

Thanks for this. When I click on the link, all I see is a photo. Is not Kip a member of this goup? How can I get the whole story? I think I saw a How to" once; am losing my mind. I am also deparate.
Peter, it’s a photobucket type of posting. If you flip through it you will see text to walk you through it.

Two sheets of masticated rubber from Detroit Muscle..... next little project.

Been meaning to replace the splash shields over the front suspension in the engine compartment.

First step... wash car.... while the engine cools enough to get the old splash shields out.

Starting with the passenger side, I used a silver paint pen to mark the edges of the shape. I started with some craft scissors but got hold of my wife’s poultry shears which worked better. (Please don’t tell her) The masticated rubber I bought was 1/8” thick and about twice as thick as the original. I cut the holes with a punch using the old shield as a guide for spacing.

I had a bunch of new, old and chromed clips to choose from due to my “never throw out a good clip” fervor since I was 18. I also had some from a previous set of shields I installed in my 73 T&C.

Left to right, bigger round head clips go along the bottom holes (4), OEM original, aftermarket chrome, replacement galvanized.

Same but reversed. Chrome ones are thicker wire and have a little bit longer shank. Going with those..... because they are also shiny.

Little rubber mallet as much to tap as to push the clips back in.

Passenger side done.

Pull the the driver side next

As suspected, driver side is different. Also, it was well cooked and stiff as a cracker.

Repeat and install. Installation of the drivers side was much harder due to brake lines and wire for the sensor, starter cables and power steering hoses.

Total time: 3 hours
Material cost:
2 sheets of masticated rubber;18”x36” $36.00
Clips; (aftermarket) Mr Fastener $4.59.

Hey.Wouldn,t it be funny if the wife found the car in the living room?Kind of like one of those 3 stooge comedies where the bad guys had the stolen coupe in the apartment room and they ask,"How did they get the car in there??" Heh.B.B

I have to do the same for my 78. All of the rubber sheets around the front bumber/radiator support need to replaced. Javier, I have 1/8th thick rubber sheets, I am wondering if that is too thick.

I used the same 1/8” sheets and they were a little stiffer than the originals but worked out just fine.

Being a little thicker, I’m hoping they will last at least, the rest of my life......

So when can Stan and I expect ours to arrive? I'll have three, thank you...

Splash guards in my NYB were about the only items that were like new and complete on the entire car.

I can't bend over enough to be wrestling with stuff deep in the bowels of the engine compartment anymore (young'uns, stop laughing. You'll see some day). I'll wait for the free installation. The driver's side is a *****....
